Amoung the poorer voters McCain needs to swing it'll probably help.
No doubt they'll be eagerly awaiting the New Yorker to arrive in their letterbox, because lots of poor people subscribe to it.
Y'know, if Obama gets the endorsement of the Washington Post, the NY Times, USA Today, and the Wall Street Journal, man he'll be screwed then, at least by extension of Angus' theory.

In the faceblind test I scored 88% on unknown faces and 97% on famous faces (Tony Blair threw me)
I got the same result on the famous faces. I wanted a back button to go back and look at it again, because it didn't look a bit like him. Maybe his hair is important in 'Tony Blair recognition'.

The introduction of the bonus point system has not ensured that every game is exciting.
No, but I'm not sure anyone ever claimed that it would make _every_ game more exciting.
You do sometimes see a team kicking the penalty to touch and going for the try rather than the goalposts because of the bonus point rule. So it has affected decision-making on the field. Probably less so now with the ELVs.

Good gods, how wide-spread is this?
I tended to have a small group of people in various classes that I used to help with things after the teacher had finished explaining it. A couple of nice young women in 5th form maths, a group of four or five friends in 6th form accounting, and occasionally, the whole class in 7th form economics (occasionally the teacher would say, after he'd drawn something on the whiteboard "is that right Kyle?").
All nice teachers, and not terrible at their job, just not focused on making sure the whole class 'got it'.

It's not so much the making available of an existing work in new formats that enhances the culture - it's the availability of it for redevelopment e.g. taking a character that interests the reader and writing a new story about them, or envisioning an existing story from a minor character's perspective.
I'm not sure if I'd consider one of society's rights to take the creation of one person, and then fiddle around with it and make it into something different. The copyright holder has contributed to the public good by putting their work out in the public in the first place.
If I wrote a song and someone used it as part of one of their other songs (I currently have that Eminem song 'Stan' which used Dido somewhere on my computer), I'd want to have some control over that. If I didn't like Eminem and didn't want him to use my music, shouldn't I just be able to say 'no'? Why would it be in the public interest for Eminem to be free to do something with Dido's music that she never would have approved of? What if someone put it in a pornography film? Should she have the right not to have her creation used in a way that she doesn't want?
I know that a lot of the time copyright is used for pure financial reasons, but I think for the holders of copyright, it has other purposes as well.

Canterbury rugby are famous for breaking all the rules.
Oh sure. But these days they seem to fall within the rules, they just get Tasman to do everything for them and then grab the players for Crusaders _just_ before they get on the field in a Tasman top.

According to Allblacks.com:
Not all teams will play each other during the Modified Round Robin. A formula has been developed to determine which teams do not play each other, based on a team’s competition placing from the previous season.
-
It’s seeded so the 3 teams you miss out on are 1 from S14 franchise base, a middle-tier, and then an expansion team.
No that can't be right. Canterbury skipped both Wellington and Waikato, both of which are franchise bases.
It must be based on last year's placings. One from the top 4/5, one from the next 4/5, and one from the bottom 4/5. Auckland therefore missed out on Hawkes Bay, Otago, Tasman, in descending order from 2007. Northland: Wellington, Southland, Counties. Canterbury: Wellington, Waikato (5th), Counties.
-
It also doesn't help that the round robin system this year meant that not every team played each other (something I am for)
Yeah that's dumb. A quick analysis of who played who makes you feel sorry for Otago.
There are 14 teams in the competition, you play 10 games, so you don't play 3 of the other teams.
The three teams that Otago didn't play were Auckland, North Harbour and Manawatu (they appear to be a top of the table team, a middle table team, and a bottom of the table team from 2007). None of those three teams made the quarter-finals. Otago appear to be the only team that played all 8 quarterfinalists in their 10 games. 2 more points and Otago would have pushed Taranaki down.
Auckland can't bitch too much, they missed out on playing Otago, Hawkes Bay and Tasman.
Canterbury got it pretty easy, they missed playing Wellington and Waikato, along with Counties.
The stupid thing is, if they got rid of two teams, and took away the quarter finals (just playing semis), then they could play a full round-robin. What a great idea, wonder if anything will come of it?

But what kind of system allows a 4-6 team into the post-season ahead of a 5-5 team?
Yeah, but if we go back a bunch of years people were bitching about teams that got 'close' in a high scoring game, and got no reward at all. Six one way, half a dozen the other.
I'm in favour of the bonus point for coming close, I think the bonus point for scoring four tries is a mockery. If you need to add incentives to make your game exciting, you need to look at your rules. And games with fewer tries can be exciting.
