  • Field Theory: Selling Out on a Thursday,

The record in the NHL is 484 consecutive games - held by the Colorado Avalanche at the 20,000 seat Pepsi Centre (where the Democrats recently did their thing).

Hmm, that's disputed. By both Toronto and Montreal. Toronto from wikipedia:

Earlier, they sold out every game at Maple Leaf Gardens from 1946 until the building closed in 1999.

That's er, well over a thousand games.

  • Hard News: Weekend Warriors,

Sure, there were some missteps and I think any candidate would be unhappy just to be one or two points ahead, but all in all, there seems to be a quiet optimism creeping back into the Democratic campaign after an unsettling few days.

What's most disturbing is that it's still close. Just how many villages does the USA have, and how many idiots does each village need?

The ones that I talk to are all voting Democrat, so I'm always surprised when I hear of polls and it's 'close' or 'tied'.

  • Hard News: Weekend Warriors,

Obama quite clearly does and has vastly more credibility there.

And y'know. He's actually been overseas.

Kyle - tell me you're kidding.
What we're seeing in the US sure ain't sanity ...

We may be bad, but we're not that bad yet.

Meh. I'd happily slot an Obama type figure in place of anyone leading Labour, NZ First, National, Act, Maori Party right now. I'll be so glad when Winston doesn't get back in, but I think Clark has tarnished her legacy the past couple of years, which is a shame.

The Greens are doing OK, but maybe that's just because they're flying beneath the radar at present.

  • Up Front: Young and Sort of Free,

My son (10) tends to self-opt-out of stuff. If he's watching something and it gets a bit much for him, he asks "is this appropriate for me?" - even if I'm happy for him to watch it. (When he was 2 he picked up a sharp knife that his mother or I had left on the floor and gave it back to me and told me off for leaving it there).

Our computer is in my room and he doesn't use it a lot, but I just got a new laptop last weekend, so I suspect he'll be in there a bit more. I keep a moderate eye on him, pop in frequently etc. I set up his own account on the computer, but I reserve the right to snoop and figure out what he's been doing. So far it's only been watching muppet videos on youtube.

But he's got such a strong sense of boundaries I'm also very confident if he accidentally went some place that wasn't OK for him, he'd come tell me.

  • Island Life: Too True To Be Good,

There's an amusing irony that so far Labour have released about as much National Party policy as National have, after months of 'show us your policy'.

Politics this year is, in so many ways, fucked up backwards land. There's something wrong when we look to the USA elections for relative sanity.

__Angus: Please go read the Constitution of the United States, and try and be a little more informed on what the Vice President actually does than Palin was.__

How many ties in Congress have there been recently?

I think you need to read it again Angus. Congress doesn't vote together, so it can't tie. The House and Senate vote separately.

The VP is the President of the Senate.

    cannabis remains prohibited

When I was in Canada a couple of years ago I smelt it often enough just wandering around the streets that I assumed it was legal.

Apparently not, just not policed very aggressively a friend told me.
