It is kinda weird.
As I understand it nothing illegal went on, so the National Party have been given the tapes to do what with? Put an image of a person out for the media to harass?
I'd' be much happier if the tapes had gone to the police. If nothing illegal had gone on, then I don't see why the person's identity should be revealed to anyone, including the National Party.

oh, and my most ardently disliked record at the mo is the bloody Fleet Foxes. Someone talked me into purchasing it...what horrible fey post hippy drivel....
You do realise you can push the stop button right?
And then, good frisbee.

Well, Fletch, we don't vote for coalitions either - no matter how hard the punditocracy try to game 'em before hand.
Well in some elections you do to an extent, if the parties have declared them beforehand - '99 Labour and Greens for example.
But under FPP you don't vote for parties either, you vote for a candidate and just know that they're a member of a party. So technically, in the one FPP post election that I voted for, the country got at most about 0.5% or so of what anyone voted for.

But maybe one day they could lead the cops in the wrong direction.
Knowing an ex-police officer who has been on the show about one of his cases, I can confirm that the police are very cynical about anything useful coming out of it.
The one I've seen didn't have a current police officer. Do they ever have current police officers on it? I wonder if the police has told their officers not to cooperate.

unsubstantiated bollocks. That amounts to $5625 for every man woman and child in this country every year. I'm sure sombody would have noticed that.
The economist in question was Brian Easton, the work was done in 1997. I don't know the research at all, but it'd be interesting to see what was included to come up with that figure.

Last night they crossed LIVE to an empty swimming pool as one of their lead stories. Its only going to get worse.
Tonight's live cross: "Yes that's right, they are now filling up the swimming pool here at Beijing. With only a day to go until the biggest show on earth..."
Man, I could so get a job writing news-talking-head's scripts for them.

There ya go. It's a profit-making exercise for the government, and they still discourage it. Crazy.

Kyle, this is for you.
Aww. But I know you secretly recorded my idea, and you're clearly now Labour Youth.
__Craig, for or against Woodward, Bernstein and Deep Throat?__
Thank you, David!
...
Way to not answer the question.

__I get the impression with National that they're adopting a George Bush-Iraq-911-terrorist type strategy.__
Would you care to expand, or was that just a pretext to shoe-horn a poo-some Bush namecheck into the discussion?
OK. Bush repeated the phrases "Iraq" and "911" and "terrorist" and "weapons of mass destruction" next to each other in speeches umpteen times while building the case to invade Iraq, without actually saying that Iraq was involved in 911 (which of course wasn't true).
I get the impression that National is just going to keep on saying "stolen emails" again and again, even though both Hager, and the police have said "not stolen", as that's the impression they want to lay over the top of the whole hollow men story, play, film etc.
In much the same way that the impression that they want to lay over these recorded conversations is "Labour activists", "immoral recording" etc.
Fight against the substance by ignoring it and pointing at the method.

There's some bloody dead fish you have to swallow
I don't get that statement at all. How are dead fish better than live fish? Is Lockwood a seagull?
Personally I don't have a problem with the secret recording of politicians at a conference. To me the question is about context. A conference is OK, in their bedroom isn't.
We already have a whistleblowers law which allows people to release stuff into the public domain where its in the public interest. To me these two statements are absolutely in the public interest. I can't remember the Mike Williams one to know whether it would withstand the similar test.
I get the impression with National that they're adopting a George Bush-Iraq-911-terrorist type strategy. Say 'stolen emails' enough, and a bunch of people will come to believe that they really were stolen, even if the actual evidence (police etc) says that's not the case.
