e also outlined Sky's plans for the 2010 Winter Olympics and 2012 Olympics in London. They're huge. Sky will have eight dedicated Olympic channels
Sweet. We might actually get decent coverage of winter sports for the first time. Actually watching games rather than 5 minute highlights.

I'm with Craig. I don't care where the photo came from, though obviously some people do.
Every time I see a leaflet or pledge card or whatever funded by parliamentary services by whatever dubious distinction a political party manages to include it outside their own money, I get pissed off.
Labour seem to be particularly bad in this area. It's making me have reflux every time I see the Labour logo on something, which is probably not the reaction they're going for.

Which is doubly disappointing having watched Ali Williams turn into 'not a munter'.
There's a story no doubt to be told as to why Ali was such a problem at the Blues, but how he was largely fine in the All Blacks. Might have just been a personality clash with the coach.
That QF loss last year for example, he had an amazing game. Stole what, 3 lineouts?

I actually do think there's some slim argument for men being able to veto a pregnancy going ahead.
I think there's an argument, I just don't see how to make it practically apply. I do understand how there are some males out there who feel a little bitter about the path of life however, particularly when it comes to child support payments.
men who couldn't afford the paternity test to prove the kid wasn't theirs, and had to shell out.
I half caught a news story that there were some changes in this matter either happening or in the pipeline. I believe it was along the lines that where the court had reason to believe that a person might not be the father, they could order a parentage test to take place, previously the mother could refuse. I might be telling accidental porkies though.
they have an argument over what to have for tea, harsh words aired, wife goes out and gets an abortion, and what can be done to prevent that?
tommy husband driving home from work, runs over the cat, wife goes out and gets another abortion....
I'm not sure of everything that goes through a woman's mind before having an abortion, but I'm not sure "steak dammit!" or "oh no, not Tiddles the cat!" are top of the list. If they are, it's probably just desserts for choosing a person who has an abortion as a form of revenge, as your sexual partner.
-
If I'm not mistaken you're talking about a situation where the woman wants to have an abortion and the father (potential father?) is permitted to forbid that, which, see violation of bodily autonomy above.
Without wishing to argue on Mark's side, who's digging himself into a large hole...
The other situation is mother wanting to have the child, and the father not wanting to.
Currently men's control over the future ends at sex, women have other options after that. Which, when birth control has failed, no doubt feels a little disempowering.
(Firefox doesn't think that disempowering is a word, but you know what I mean).

Anyways the problem with the law is that it is religiously broken
Yeah, scrap the law books, just table the 10 commandments in the house.
Yeah, it'll be messy as all hell, but I'd rather have the messy public debate and settle this thing than keep on with the current legislation. I mean, surely by now we're grown-up enough to just legalise abortion and be done with it.
I suspect it would pass, but I can't imagine it would be 'grown-up'. If it was I'd feel more comfortable saying 'yeah, have that debate'.
-
Maybe Labour should whip out a Bill to put the law in line with the current de-facto situation. This would be unacceptable to a lot of National MPs, not to mention the Christian Right. Making this an election issue might be no bad thing - it could sway the vote of a lot of people who are tending to the Nats.
I don't know if I could handle abortion being thrown into the election right now. Can't we just have the normal stupid debates?
-
There would have to be something wrong with a person not to support such a stance.
I’ve always believed that scratch a ( cannabis ) prohibitionist and you’ll find an arsehole.

This is not a racial issue, stop making it one dub.
Wasn't Clydesdale originally talking about Polynesian immigrants?
Sounds like a racial issue to me.

Um, Don, it's not a "possible exception" that Cullen was ordered to release the Treasury costings of the student loans policy during the campaign. Statement of fact, and as far as I'm aware no Chief Ombudsman had taken that step before, and I hope will never need to again.
Don was talking about policy. Labour were very clear on their policy at that time, they released it, including the detail.
I would say that "possible exception" is quite accurate, as policy was fully released. Yes there was a problem with the treasury costings being held back, that's not policy though.
