  • Hard News: Mac Ouch,

Is the version shown at midnight better and more interesting that the one that will be shown for the following month?

    People like new things.

And no doubt it'll give Craig something to bitch about in relation to the people who came in costume (I'm presuming he didn't).

Therefore, it'll be double-happy for him.

Nothing captures the idea of barbarity better than low production values and extremely bad acting.

I have a special place in my heart for Red Sonja, which I saw when my brother rented it once when I was about 13 or so.

I suspect this would be totally ruined by ever watching it again, as I might pay attention to the acting.

The pile of rank bad practices that has accumulated around this is simply staggering.

We need some sort of international foundation for the preservation of democracy that will send them bits of paper and pens so that they can vote in a way that actually works.

  • Hard News: Mac Ouch,

Completely off topic, because I can't be bothered going back and finding the US voting system thread we had last year some time.

Report: Diebold Voting System Has 'Delete' Button for Erasing Audit Logs

But the most startling information in the state's 13-page report (.pdf) is not why the system lost votes, which Wired.com previously covered in detail, but that some versions of Diebold's vote tabulation system, known as the Global Election Management System (Gems), include a button that allows someone to delete audit logs from the system.

    ...

Apparently Premier/Diebold was aware that having a Clear button on its system was a bad idea. According to California's report, one of the system's developers wrote in an e-mail in 2001: "Adding a Clear button is easy, but there are too many reasons why doing that is a bad idea." Yet the company included the button in its system anyway.

Can we send our electoral office to the states and teach them how to suck eggs?

    2) tuck the excess cable under your sports bra strap so it doesn't fly around catching on things.

Can I vote against Jake taking more photos of this? Ta.

  • Hard News: Mac Ouch,

George, how do you suggest we set the rate for the NZ currency? By government fiat, with the rate determined by whether farmers or Mac buyers currently have the ear of government?

What about a small transaction tax on currency speculation? I don't know if that's practical, but that presumably would discourage it.

there is no way to cancel images and just get a compact listing of headlines (too much stuff to have to scroll down past)

You're looking for an RSS reader, not a web page, surely.

Incidentally, my RSS feeder picked up about half as many new stories this morning as it normally does from stuff. It did however no longer pick up 'doubles' of the one story, which it used to do sometimes as well.

Can I just say, having brought three for work just recently, the new macbook pros, aluminium case that they've been advertising on tv are very nice machines.

I had a staff member coming into my office to touch her new computer while she waited for me to finish setting it up.

The only thing I don't like about them is they've taken the buttons off the touchpad, and made it clickable. But unlike the really nice touchpad that you'll find on any windows PC machine, this one you actually have to click, rather than just lightly tap. If you normally use an external mouse, it would have to be the nicest computer I've ever had anything to do with (which is a few).

I think that's most of the reason for the underfloor heating Andrew. It's not done for luxury, it's done because it would cost more than normal to put the heating above ground because prisoners would break it, or use it, so it would need to be made differently to be secure.

Underfloor conductive (conduct? convect? high school science has been a while) heating is safe and impossible for them to get to.

Regular posters to the 'your views' section typically haven't ever had to design and build a prison. It's not just a house with locks on the outside.

It is a digital to slide film printer. I can take your emailed Jpegs, Tiffs or what ever and render them to 35mm photographic film at the same resolution as the Lord of the rings films, then have them in the mail within 24 hours.

How bizarre - converting to technology that is no longer produced!

Do you go the other way, surely that would be more useful. I scan a few thousand slides to digital each year, and haven't ever found a NZ company that would mass scan them.

Here's a nice quote from the party of individual freedom:

"Alter the Bill of Rights Act. We've got too hung up on people's rights."
