  • Hard News: Effectively Friday,

According to the link posted earlier the guy had been poncing around with lights quite often and had been talked to by Bale about it and now did the same thing in what sounds like his most intense scene in the movie. Fuck it, I would have gone ballistic as well.

Bale earnt 38 million for the Batman movie he did, probably something similar for the terminator movie.

Obviously I come from a different world, but someone wants to pay that much money for a few month's work, they could have their DP prancing around in a tutu for all I care.

And there's "Hey! I'm trying to fucking concentrate here, could you stop moving shit around!" vs threatening to hit the guy. To return to the "it's no OK" theme of a few weeks ago.

I suspect a good number of them will find other jobs. Possibly earning a lot worse, but still not visiting food banks.

And it's a national government. Consultants will be heavily in demand because the public service is going to be pared down, so the work will all be consulted out. No problem :)

Yes to what Danielle said. The alternative to people having to treat people like pretentious wankers, is them not to be them.

Didn't he get arrested last year for domestic violence on his mother and sister or something? Could be that he's just a fuckwit?

(Apparently the speed at which I can type while not looking at the screen at all is kind of frightening to some)

I have that too. People come into my office and I look up at them while I keep typing to finish a sentence.

But then I work with academics, for most of whom typing involves fingers doing chicken impressions.

  • Hard News: Only in a relative sense,

Giovanni, you stopped one letter too soon - "noes means noes", surely. :)

I took him to be talking about the t-shirts that are used on campus during orientation as part of the education campaign about respecting people's choices when it comes to sex. I think I still have one in a draw somewhere. And probably stickers.

In which case, no esses, as the slogan is "no means no".

Surely we aren't going to survive this recession by having the poor weather the storm for the rest of us.

Isn't that what we always largely do? Most of the people shifting from employment to unemployment, will already have been below the minimum wage. Those who lose their jobs and are able to find another one will be more likely to have been more well off.

I fail to see why this recession should be any diferent than the last four or five (or... lots) that we've been through, sad though it is.

That's true. But I know some girls who write it quite well...

That's not a bad skill given that they apparently have their eyes closed.

  • Hard News: The Trophy Hunter,

I routinely get it when accessing Stuff and TV3 content that is restricted to a New Zealand audience. And that I'm trying to access from, you know, New Zealand.

Man, the internet knows you're not really a kiwi. Spooky.

  • Field Theory: He's good, but I still…,

Correct me if i'm wrong, but haven't we had that training happening for over a year now?

I think it's a member of the NZ softball team who helps with their fielding. There was talk when the softballers were going to... Argentina?... that one of their members would be delayed because they were with the cricket team.

But why oh why does every NZ commentator have to insist that he's a "much better batsman than his average"

I think, particularly in one day cricket, particularly for bowlers, you have to come out in the last few overs and sacrifice your wicket for the good of quick runs. For some that won't affect their average (er, Martin), for others, you could imagine if they had another 10, 15 overs to play with they would have a higher average.

Take Franklin for example. Great domestic form recently, average internationally with the bat. Part of the reason is he plays higher in the order for Wellington so gets more time/options. Part will no doubt be the lesser quality of the NZ domestic bowling scene.

After watching the video of Haddin dismissing Broom, Ponting's comments in response to vettori's look stupid. "I haven't seen the video, but Daniel Vettori is right off the martk...". Maybe if he'd watched the footage first he might have looked less like a dickhead in hindsight.

  • Speaker: Copyright Must Change,

Quite. The only thing we know is that they intend to suspend the rule of law. Yippeee!

Is it a suspension of the rule of law? Is the only punishment relating to your internet access, or does it flow further than that?

If it's just your internet access, it's a civil matter that the ISP is doing. Some of those matters can be contested in court, but others can't can they? A bar can give me a two year ban because I was an arsehole and broke stuff, can I contest that?

Surely an ISP or other service provider can refuse me service based on any number of reasons legally, and I can't contest that? Particularly if I was using their service for illegal activities.

The closing date for submissions is in March, after the law comes into force.

    That is dumb.
