Which begs the question: why isn't it on right now?
Hear hear. I know it's started in the US. I feel robbed... or maybe no theft took place. Anyway, someone owes me something.

Littering is also illegal. By your reasoning, that makes it the same as theft, therefore we can say that "littering is theft" and thus punishable by jail terms.
No that wasn't my reasoning at all. I didn't say illegal==theft, I said, the term doesn't matter to most people. I know what I'm doing. If I was to show you what I was doing, you'd know what I was doing. If I ended up in trouble for it, the court would quickly figure out what I was doing, and throw out a theft charge.
I don't download music that I could buy from a shop, online or physically, and same with movies. I'd feel that if I did, I'd be stealing, by not paying the various companies, and artists who made it, their fair bit of cash. The phrase "it's not theft!" is what turns me off "your side" of the argument. I feel it diminishes what I would be doing if I did download those things, which I'd consider 'stealing' by not paying for something that I should pay for. No it's not physically taking something, but it's still getting something and not paying for it.
I download a lot of TV which you can't get here in NZ, I don't have a problem with that, if you could get it here in NZ, I'd pay for it.

How many times will this old chestnut be trotted out?
I suspect most people don't care about the distinction. I certainly don't. I don't care whether it's termed 'theft' or 'illegal copying' or 'copyright infringement', I know what I'm doing and where it fits on legal and moral scales.
"It's not theft!" is the worst argument in favour of change. I don't particularly care about the label, it's the action and what it means (or doesn't) at the other end that is the issue.

I vote that the plane takes you to Gore. Maybe Balclutha.
I mean, if you're going to be smug about your big trip and what you're going to see, that's what you deserve, surely.

Nobody is changing the system of time
See upstream where Paul suggested kS and mS. So, if you were changing the system of time, why wouldn't you change your base so that it worked on earth as a decimal was my point.
-
What I mean is - days, and years, make sense. They're not decimal, but they relate to the world around us.
Hours, minutes, seconds, arbitrary numbers someone picked out of their arse. Why would it be the second that you'd keep for your number base? Why not the day or the year? Standardise it at a certain date and ignore the fact that it changes in minuscule ways.
-
Sure, but then... what's a centimetre? At least one of those units is going be a tenth of nothing at all.
Yes, but it's a decimal of nothing at all. Not at 60th, 24th, or 365thand a bit-th.
Why would you change the system of time and leave in three different factors, none of which is 10?
-
Why? A metre is not a decimal of anything. A gram neither.
A gram was. It was the weight of a cubic cm of pure water or something like that.
And a litre is a decimal portion of a cubic metre or something. And a litre of water is almost exactly one kg (depends on where it's measured and its temperature).

But I agree though, he may have had little choice but to take the deal offered as the alternative in his particular cased wouldn't be a very hard, almost impossible road.
Do you mean because he's in NZ, and the audience and money is overwhelmingly overseas?
Because you'd think in theory, the internet would make distance less of a problem for at least some part of being an artist - can get your music out there and gather fans by only investing time.
Doesn't help much with the live performances etc obviously.

Yes, but my point is, if you're going to a decimal system, then surely the base unit should be a decimal of something, not a 1/31557600.
