I have a theory that Italy can disprove most rules. From the little I hear about it seems such a crazy country in many ways.

A colleague who goes there every year will finish telling a story about Italy with the phrase "it's very Italian" as an explanation. And then he'll impart another story about why he loves the place so much, not so much in spite of the first story, but because of it.

and what's happened to Tuffey? Never seemed to play to his size, but got nice high bounce.

Playing club cricket in Sydney a few months ago I think. 2nd XI or something.

It won't solve the problem. It'll deter people who casually misuse phones, but unless there are stiff criminal sanctions for on-selling a phone without updating the register it won't matter a damn.

No doubt it wouldn't solve every problem, in much the same way that a vehicle register doesn't help you find a criminal who steals a car and uses it in a crime.

But even if it's only done at point of original sale it could help with some things. If a person on-sells it, they might be able to tell police who they sold it to.

I am unsure whether I'd support it, but I can see that it would help in some instances. It's a question of whether that is sufficient enough to make the cost worthwhile.

And I don't personally believe any information I am compulsorily required to provide the state with ie. the DVLA, should be on-sold for commercial gain. A database of registered vehicles and drivers is one thing, flogging information from it to any company who stumps up £5 is something altogether different.

Hear hear. I have very few problems with most of the information that the government collects about me, and I don't mind them sharing it with some other government departments within reason.

It's the selling on would annoy me. The post office still sells car license information? Anyone know what else is available here from government and local body data?

Greatbatch was almost surreal. He got pushed up to open specifically to whack shit out of it, and he seemed able to do that every game.

Actually he didn't get pushed up for that purpose at all.

The plan at the first match against Australia was for the other opener (Larson?, kinda pudgy guy) to smack the ball around, and Greatbatch to play through the innings and provide the anchor.

When they got out on the field things kinda worked out the other way and they stuck with GB hitting the ball everywhere for the rest of the tournament.

  • Hard News: Flu diversions,

I've found it a matter of whether there's a consistent system or not. Magic or science, doesn't matter. I really dislike spec-fic where the speculative elements are clearly being, as we officially call it at Bardic Web, 'pulled out of your arse'.

Hear hear. I read a fair bit of fantasy, and the better ones always had some explanation as to where magic came from - combining elements, drawing on the power of a god or a mutation or something. Some others... well yup, out of your arse is a description of the theory, and often the quality of the result.

Spiderman annoys me somewhat. I want to know if he eats the right diet to produce that much silk. Sure, the whole franchise wouldn't have sold as well, but I think he also should have eaten a lot more flies.

And those slashes straight to the gully fielder.

If he'd had some sort of hard-wiring which only allowed him to play in the V, he might have scored slower, but his average would be over 40 I'm sure.

The thing that annoyed me most about Fleming is that sometimes he'd come out to the wicket and you could just tell that he was going to have a big one. That innings in that shortened match at the world cup in South Africa - against South Africa? Took the game by the scruff of the neck and said "I'm going to win this one".

If he'd done that successfully twice as often...

Curse my common name - which Paul did you mean Kyle? Mr Litterick or me?

I meant Paul Litterick. Though from what you've linked to there, it looks like his understanding is correct, and mine was not.

NZ has only had three genuinely world class players- Bond, Vettori and Cairns

Yeah. Fleming, the world class player who never quite showed it. Oram the world class player who breaks when playing the game. Bond, the world class player who hardly ever, and now maybe never will, play.

Richardson was good though. Only really a good test player, not ODIs, which is unusual for NZ.

McCullum is so great batting down the order it is a real shame to see him wasted in the top order.

It's my understanding that McCullum is playing up the order at his demand.

I suspect it wouldn't be allowed to happen if it was against the interests of the team if we didn't have a coach that seems to increasingly be a benchwarmer.

It'd be nice to see them play Fulton at 3, then Ryder, Taylor, Flynn, McCullum, Vettori at Adelaide.
