Presumption of innocence even extends to them, Kyle.
Ah yup.
My point was, that my understanding of what they're doing differed from Paul's. Paul seemed to be running with "anyone arrested'. My understanding was 'anyone arrested who had a previous criminal record'.

Ricky Stuart apparently shockingly bad at losing, having abused the referee at a chance meeting at a hotel on Saturday night.

The Herald's lead story on Friday began: "Criminals will soon find it harder to get bail as the National Government moves immediately to get tough on law and order." So there goes the presumption of innocence, so far as the Herald is concerned: these are Criminals, not those accused of crimes.
I've always taken that to mean people with an existing criminal record, being charged with new offenses.

Okay, this is coming from a guy whose only exposure to cricket before 1997 was via The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, but... it's not just the colour of the ball. It's also who's allowed to bowl, where they're allowed to bowl and what kind of field they can set.
Wait, your argument comes from Hitchhikers? Lighten up.

the magnificent craig mcdermott, who i have just discovered has been a bit of a bad boy
I like how that Wikipedia page has a graph of his batting average in the section on his bankruptcy. If you don't read the graph closely it could easily be his financial up- and down-swings.

Not only are we better at one day cricket than test cricket, but we make more runs in a one day cricket innings than in a test innings.
I know it's not quite as simple as that, but I vote for us sending McCullum and Ryder out to open the innings by putting the ball into the stand and make a dash 300 by 50 overs. If we're not all out at 50 overs, they just keep going. We'll at least do better than the 150 - 170 we tend to get in tests these days.
People might suggest it's the colour of the ball that makes the difference, personally that makes only slightly more sense than the colour of the clothing.

I’d like to see him scoring some runs in something other than multiples of 6 at some stage too.
No see. Both yesterday, and earlier in the year when he got 77 against England by smashing it everywhere, he was not out.
The problem wasn't that he was scoring sixes, it was that Chris Martin wasn't doing the same thing at the other end.

Astle's batting explosion 3-4 years ago against England in Chch when we were hopelessly behind their total is probably the greatest forlorn chase I've ever seen.
Sadly it wasn't quite that recent. Early in 2002.
Or Southee's nine sixes earlier this year.
See that one I know is going to bite. Because every time he comes out now, and we're well behind (which is pretty much every time), I'm going to expect him to rack up a quick 50 runs in 20 balls by hitting leather to all corners.
He'll probably never do it again and I'll be eternally disappointed.
Which I guess fits in with NZ batting efforts, so welcome to your national team Southee.

I handed her my bank card, watched as she used the eft-pos machine to confirm that the details I'd given her matched those that HSBC had for me, then left as she uttered, "Good-bye Mr Chapman" – a familiarity that only served to highlight the real transaction that had actually taken place.
I can understand that the use of cell phones by people to organise crimes causes concerns.
And if that leads to a debate that you can only buy a cell phone with ID, that might be a debate worth having.
But, charging 10 pounds more to deter criminals from having non-registered phones? How is that going to help?
Cause crims have real trouble coming up with an extra tenner?

Then we did what we always do in the second half: play well and don't give up points. That's been the game plan since the All Blacks left on this tour.
It kinda makes you wonder why that isn't the game plan in the first half actually.
How did Darren Lockyer win the man of the match?
It was probably a conspiracy by tournament organisers to keep the international game alive, or a stitch up by the referee.
The Ferns chalked up 36 points in the final and kept the devestated Jillaroos scoreless. The Ferns were flawless in both attack and defence, once again proving their World Champion status.
36-nil! That should have been on the TV news.
