My gods, it's not even in print yet and already the beasts are foaming. But i did like the last comment:
How often do we have to tell people, there's no prize for reading to the end of a kiwiblog page.

i think you can leave water standing in a bucket or container for a few hours and most of the floride evaporates? it's what they recommend for water in fish tanks for example.
24 hours was what I used to do when I had fish as a child.
And it's for chlorine, not fluoride I believe.

It's not about being "told how to spend your money", it's being honest with your constituents that debt relative to GDP cannot improve when people continue to live beyond their means with funds borrowed offshore.
I think you're confusing Minister of Finance with Minister Responsible for the Economy, which we don't have. Cullen is responsible for what the government does with its money. His responsibility for managing the economy is much more limited, and comes more under the heading of "if you screw up the economy you're unlikely to get re-elected".

Yes, but if the record business imploded, radio stations and the like would still play music.
Currently, as far as I know, they play music sent to them by record businesses. If there suddenly stopped being a music business. they'd have to go find their own.
Which would be fine in theory, but they'd have to find the music, get a decent copy of it, negotiate with each band to ensure they had permission, and compensate directly?

Are we going to see changes every election time - in three years will we see the next leader of the opposition saying "Only 20% in NZ" - how then does the fund exit gracefully without distorting the market again?
I would presume that they'll be sensible enough to give the fund reasonable time to invest/divest if it had to meet a certain percentage. If the Cullen fund had to go up to 40% NZ tomorrow, they prices would go through the roof in anticipation. If it was done over 3 years or something, quietly buying chunks here and there, the impact would be much less.

i have a serious question. if the cullen fund is invested overseas, and growing, isn't that a bit like drawing foreign money into the country? something we need?
I am far and away no expert on macro-economics, but surely only if the income drawn out of the overseas investments and brought back into the country (I don't think this has happened yet, but presumably will when the fund starts paying for our aging population) exceeds the additional investment moved overseas as the government puts more money into the fund.
Currently, for each billion the government puts into the fund, most of it goes overseas.
Of course, there must be a difference between capital and earnings. Capital is going out, earnings are coming back.

One day, ONE DAY, they'll come for the tall ones and I shall say "try the posh end of Cuba st"
Us tall people stick out too. Very worrying being different in this way.
And doorways too.

I would argue that marginal income is important, and that punters would be more likely to wager $1 that they might like an album, vs having to go through the cost of researching (via HypeM, bfm or whatever) whether an album seems to match their preferences - especially if that album is priced at $15+.
I'd buy hundreds of albums if they only cost me $1 each.
But removing the physical object doesn't get rid of 90% of the cost. I'd like the band to at least get a couple of bucks for each album that they sell. And all the other people on the chain that made it available digitally.

ISPs have asked for this before, but have been denied. Nothing has changed. Perhaps you could elucidate your statement.
ISPs are having to take some responsibility for what happens on their networks under the new law.

It's called 'common carrier status'- telcos have it, ISPs do not.
Well clearly that's changing somewhat.
