Why this sudden obsession with "purity" of beer. It doesn't make it taste nice and it won't stop you getting a hangover.
I remember when Gales were rumoured to throw a dead rat in the vat of HSB (available in replica form from some New Worlds) to start the fermentation process.

I suspect they may also be predicting $31,926,542 of flowthrough benefits into the economy.

Hey, I'm actually doing some stuff in the gaming space right now.
How about the government pick me up from airside in a chaufferred car, feed me Moet and canapes at Premier House, and flick me a few mill in tax breaks and subsidies?
In return, I'll vaguely promise to turn something out sometime in the next few years, other funding sources permitting. Oh, and can I have a few laws revised in my favour while we're at it...

Surprised not to see these words from Humber Wolfe quoted:
You cannot hope
to bribe or twist,
thank God! the
British journalist.
But, seeing what
the man will do
unbribed, there's
no occasion to. -
It's not so much a "wall" as potholes strewn wildly about the place
I was in Shanghai airport a few weeks ago and the free WiFi was heinously crap. I assumed this was just the nature of free WiFi (I'm expecting the vaunted Wellington service to be the same, especially when every 14-year old geek in the central city finds out how to keep changing their MAC address and hence download torrents 24/7)
Maybe it was the firewall, and everything I accessed was on the disapproved list.
Also, does Vodafone have no roaming agreement in China?

Hard News: Wikileaks: The Cable Guys, in reply to
I'd have thought James was making an obvious point. If someone sent a set of patient records or the WINZ client database to Wikileaks, they'd refuse to publish them, because they are not material of ethical, political and historical significance.
Which refutes the suggestions made upthread that Wikileaks *would* publish such data.
Deliberately pretending that somebody is posting non-sequiturs comes close to bullying in my book.

“ are you worried about
communists taking over New Zealand?”Only insofar as they might fail.

I think closing PayPal would be no bad thing. They're basically a corrupt pseudo-bank, and sensible countries should block their credit card issuers from transacting with them.
The effect of that would be that they would go bust and a new and more honest channel would replace them.

Hard News: Popular Paranoiac Politics, in reply to
Somebody wielding a Bhagavad Gita tried to waylay me at lunchtime and tried to talk over my "sorry, I'm in a hurry" response. I'm all for religious tolerance, but I think we need to have a compromise along the lines of my not nailing them to a tree in return for their not subjecting the unwilling to their crap. And that goes for hippie and mainstream religions equally.
