I can't find the person, and the linked page is gone. Publicity shy?
Also, in the world of inaccurate precis, does "psychologist with Corrections" encompass "reading lots of psychology books while on jail on fraud charges"?

Field didn't stand up at his selection meeting and announce, when asked when he wanted to be an MP: "for the bribe money of course. You gotta problem with that"

Also, you realise the hostname is case-sensitive?

They'll probably get half a mill in uncontested, unaccountable funding in the next budget.
(Do we even have budgets any more, or does Gerry just pass supply through an Order in Council one Monday morning?)

When that single issue is democracy, accountability and the rule of law, then yes, it does override all other things.
I'm still undecided on whether to renew my already-lapsed financial membership of the Greens. The only thing that stops me walking away is that they are (unlike all other NZ parties) a democratic body. If enough of us get together, we can dump the current bunch of disappointments and elect MPs and leaders with some spine.
(It may be that not all Green MPs support the vote on the Enabling Act. It wad after all a spur of the moment decisipn. If so, then it would be good if they'd declare their views. Unity is a good idea. but only if it's behind a reasonable principle)

Anyway, more sensibly:
- Is Hansard protected by privilege because it's published by Parliament itself, or does it have infringing material expunged.
- Can one link to Hansard if not?
- Would a prosecution of a person who linked to Hansard be a breach of privilege?

My conspiracy theory is that Key and co weren't only thinking about the earthquake when they demanded the prepared files on "how to mount a coup".
All that was needed to reconstruct Christchurch was a law allowing special permits to be given for construction work at the discretion of an appropriate authority. They don't need to have powers to revoke the law against murder or appoint Brownlee an archbishop.
No, what Key is actually planning for is another, much larger financial crash. He needs these powers to do stuff like conscripting people to go to work even though they aren't going to be paid, confiscating Maori land and selling it to the Chinese and most importantly end-running all that pesky confidence and supply business.
You'll see!

It's interesting that in the Garrett case, there's no reporting that I can find online or recall of a name-suppressed person being prosecuted for passport fraud in 2005.
Could all detail of the case have been suppressed? Could he have entered an early guilty plea and been quietly dealt with without attracting attention? Did the media and police, considering him to be a friend, assist him to keep the matter quiet? (The media often contest suppression orders when a notable person is involved, don't they?)
Given Garrett has now voluntarily disclosed the details of his offending, can the suppression order be lifted and the court records perused, so the public can get an idea of what went on?

National and Labour are intrinsically authoritarian and just behaving as expected.
I had thought better of the Greens. My first thought was to not renew my overdue membership, but maybe I should try and work from within to vote out this rotten caucus and elect people with some spine.

That list of Acts is a red herring. They can change any act, so the effect is as if it wasn't there (especially as no court can review it).
