Could the passengers not be transferred in a "sealed bus" from airport to boat without going through customs? That would make the cruise experience better at minimal cost..

all those other New Zealand cities with liner terminals
Whisper it quietly, but they don't actually need one. Cruise ships happily tie up alongside the cargo wharves at Tauranga and Wellington. Some of the smaller ones visit places like Milford Sound and the Bay of Islands and use launches to take people ashore.
Also, I suspect most cruise liners would want to stop in Auckland so that passengers can transfer through the airport.

Auckland doesn't even get in the top 5 suckiest airports on the planet. Even amongst ones I've been to:
1. LAX
2. JFK
3. LHR
4. CDG
5. LGW(Interesting that no developing country airports make the top 5, either. All the ones I've been to have at least some redeeming features, even DEL & NBO).

I have no idea whether Peter Jackson's right or not. What I would guess is that he's already fully made his mind up on the subject, which doesn't seem to me to map with the idea of a review. Surely a review is meant to involve hearing all opinions and producing a set of recommendations based on that. They might as well just skip the review and get Jackson to write a paper.
It's a bit like having a copyright review and getting either Richard Stallmann or Bill Gates to run it.

who's more British than a serviceman?
A lot of people if the serviceman is Maori, Nepali or indeed Irish. Serving in the British armed forces doesn't grant you British nationality, let alone ethnicity.
I think the concept you are looking for is different to ethnicity. Maybe, as you suggest, ethnicity is taking on the meaning of national allegiance. If so we probably need another word to take over the previous meaning, like "ethnic ancestry" or something.

Also, does 40-below refer to a maximum waistline in inches? And if so, how did Farrar get in?

I believe with ships it's possible/usual for customs to clear them into the country and then they can be publically accessible. At least, that used to happen when I worked on ships.
But maybe to speed the turnround that doesn't happen with cruise ships nowadays?

Ethnicity of an Northern Irish Catholic who served in HM forces?
That would depend on the ethnicity of his or her parents.
I don't believe that ethnicity mandates national or political adherence. If your hypothetical person was of Irish ethnicity, the fact that they didn't adhere to republicanism wouldn't change that.

I would agree with you on *real* votes Rachel. However CIRs are just a sop to moronic populism, and I don't regard them as an important part of our democracy. I don't see any more of an obligation to vote in them than to click on the Dumb Post's poll of the day.
However, I guess spoiling the ballot is better than not voting. The less "No" votes this referendum gets, the easier it will be to ignore.

What about a park and lagoon pool like the Cairns esplanade
They had to build that though, coz a muddy creek full of things that want to eat you wasn't much of a tourist attraction.
I went to Cairns in '87 and it was way nicer than today.
