Although those in the media no doubt had known all along that Rankin had got it together with someone elses husband, who shortly afterwards committed suicide, I wasn't aware of this until the papers told me this morning.
I'm quite pleased they did. It just shows that apart from ruining peoples lives in her public career, she's also done so in her personal life. Good pick, Mr Key.

I thought the trick for tank welding involved filling the tank with water?

I/S: I think the Irish have a similar law. All through the NI conflict, the Irish Army would patrol the border with a couple of Gardai (police) in tow in case they found anyone arrestworthy.

As far as I can see Transmission Gully is only of use to a small number of (possibly SUV driving) commuters from Paekakariki and points north to Wellington. Who value their creature comforts too much to use the perfectly adequate train service.
I drive that road less than 10 times a year and can live with the delays. Especially now I've found a way round Otaki...
