  • Hard News: Some Week,

I guess that Cat Power record allows one to like Oasis without the stigma. Using Ableton you can play it at the same speed as the original, too (but it only lasts 1:30).

Has she done any REM or U2 covers/

Telecom were genuinely a more Kiwi switched on hip with the current cultural gesalt company

They're a corporation with majority overseas shareholding. Like DB Breweries, Watties and TradeMe.

It's quite refreshing when companies *don't* wrap themselves in the flag.

Which makes what you want Rich, impossible.

Many desirable things are impossible with our present government. That isn't to say they aren't desirable.

Also, how do you commercialise a GM crop when a large chunk of our customers reject GM food?

  • Hard News: That Buzzing Sound,

the poor farmer in question went to the field on his property right next to a field of transgenic RR plants. He then sprayed a strip of the area with roundup hoping that there might be some stray transgenic seed, and he found some. That was all fine.

Then he took those seed and bulked them up by planting them out and spraying again until he had enough to plant his own field. That was NOT fine.

The seeds got leaked onto his land. As far as I'm concerned, if you're going to leak lifeforms into the ecosystem, then you can't claim rights over those lifeforms.

This technology shouldn't be being developed by private business. Insofar as it needs to be pursued, it should be done by research bodies under national control, with the results available to all.

"bored of" is a mistranscription of a mispronunciation.

    WTF is a 'Banks-O-Mander'

A scheme such that, even though ACT have maybe 4% support in Auckland, their candidate gets complete control over the council.

Everyone is entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. If I can extend that to Philip Field, perhaps you can extend the same to Lee?

Field? He's guilty as. Hasn't he been hung yet?

Oh, and you know that national fibre network.

It's being rolled back to, basically, fibre to places that already have fibre. And it'll cost a fortune.

  • Hard News: That Buzzing Sound,

    So currently National:
    - are demolishing half the constituency to build a highway
    - are replacing the semi-democratic council with an imposed Banks-O-Mander
    - have a candidate who's been making party political films with NZ on Air money
    - and also has something of a problem with anyone who isn't either East Asian or Pakeha

    They'll probably still win..

  • Hard News: That Buzzing Sound,

I don't particularly like the idea that herbal untested pharmaceuticals are intrinsically safe, but any problems with them are limited to the people who choose to use them.

If GE organisms got into the wild and were then found to be hazardous, it could destroy our ability to sell certain agricultural produce overseas. It should be remembered that when (mostly American) GE food products were first marketed, European consumers rejected them and insisted on only buying product from a verifiably non-GE source.

That would seem to me to be an important difference.
