  • Speaker: Grand Theft Auckland,

Isn't it possible there might be a whole heap of, um, legal stuff to sort out?

And both the councils and central government have whole legal services departments to do that.

I disagree with the whole concept of the Junta. It's supposed to be to stop the elected councils from sabotaging the supercity, but if the change process had consensus behind it, that wouldn't be neccesary.

Auckland is reasonably effectively governed already. A lot of peoples pet schemes might not have got built (waterfront stadium, Eastern motorway), but that's usually for the very good reason that the voters didn't want them. The basic jobs of councils are getting done, trash gets elected, permits get processed, a new logo gets produced every three years. There's no real reason to scrap democracy in order to push through rapid change.

Except of course, that democracy won't deliver they outcome Rodney wants. It's a hard task to leverage 5% of ACT voters in Greater Auckland into an ACT controlled council, but Rodney's having a good go at it.

  • Speaker: Grand Theft Auckland,

I think Russel's on the money, and big ups to the other Russell for letting him contribute on PA.

The whole supercity process has been redesigned by Hide to produce an outcome - a gerrymandered ACT mayorality that will advance his agenda, ignoring the real opposition of Aucklanders to those ideas.

Russel isn't imagining an "Illuminati Conspiracy" - the people Rodney's appointed to run Auckland until the pseudo-election of the Lord High Mayor are already named: four dead white males and a lawyer.

[re Greenham Common] Even if it was all eventually sorted out by Watership Down guy having a word in the ear of a Lord or two

I actually thought that what happened was that a certain Mikhail Gorbachev decided that attempting World Communist Domination wasn't worth the candle, and hence negotiated away their missiles with the Americans. Leaving Greenham Common and its nukes redundant.

Hmmm. My tolerance for being a vehicle for the kind of crap lil' p is serving is stretched really thin.

Aid denial, climate change denial, holocaust denial can only be a matter of time.

There is another site where they probably appreciate that type of thing more..

    Brash's stolen emails

It's a wierd and nagging obsession, isn't it.

Even if his computer got "hacked", which I doubt, nobody in the NZ police would be able to track anything down. They do motoring offences, shoplifting and brawls, not IT security.

The school site probably doesn't have enough SUV parking for a farmers market.

I wondered what that was. I've misclicked twice in the white space on PA and had ffunnel pop up. Maybe that's by design..

Anyone else care to hazard a guess ?

I reckon $50k. All it needs is a big white line down the middle of the upstream clipon, a couple of accessways by the Curran St on-ramp and the old toll plaza, and some barricades to close the lane off.

    Who'd be a pharmacist, though?

(I have a mate who's one, and after a year or so doing interesting stuff in a hospital, he went to work at Boots in the UK. A lot of his time was spent fixing cameras - on the grounds that they are technical thingys, and pharmacology should prepare you to mend one).
