There is also a non-zero chance that you can win lotto three weeks in a row (if you buy a ticket each week).
Actually, there's a non zero chance that you could win if you don't buy a ticket. Someone might gift you one.
That's my justification for not paying stupidity tax, BTW - I prefer the free option which also has a miniscule chance of my winning.

The government has a majority with ACT alone (63/122 seats). If the Nats won Mt Albert, that wouldn't change (they'd have 64/122 seats).
The size of the majority would increase by one, but it wouldn't give them the ability to rule alone or anything. About the only practical change would be if there was a falling out with either ACT or a group of National backbenchers.

How about, when one of those right-wing blogs comes up with some bullshit, just ignore them, Russell? When you feel the D.. or the K... word coming out, stop, and post something about the issues that actually affect people in Mt Albert and elsewhere.

Looking at the different options for fibre (and this would be better in a table) I'd see:
Empty ducts: Lowest rollout cost / Highest user connection cost / Highest upgradability
Passive splitters: Lower rollout cost / Medium user connection cost / Medium upgradability
Direct fibre: Higher rollout cost / Medium user connection cost / Medium upgradability
Active ethernet over fibre: Highest rollout cost / Lowest user connection cost / Lowest upgradability
I have this funny feeling that the empty duct option might win, you know.

Bart, do all those precautions against contracting a viral infection actually work? If the virus is endemic, isn't one going to catch it anyway, eventually (like in that 70's movie).

It would seem the Herald has opted to open up the Swine Flu story to YourViews, where the antivax people appear to be having a party of some kind.
A virulent killer virus and an effective vaccine would be one way to remove them from the gene pool for good.

Actually, given the main vector so far has been high decile schools taking their kids on exotic schooltrips, I could see this wiping out the NACT vote.

With limited sick leave, it's better to keep one's sick days for skiving and be actually sick on the company's time.
Also, if you genuinely have got swine flu/marburg disease/lassa fever and you survive and your co-workers die, it's possible that the natural reduction in headcount might help you avoid redundancy.

WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!
CODE BROWN! ALERT! ALERT!
(oh wait, isn't CODE BROWN for an eColi outbreak, something like that..)

But is contacting and making offers to customers on this basis anti-competitive, or just good retail competition?
I guess it's what any sensible business would do if you cancelled their service.
But because the whole thing is artificial, it looks like an anti-competitive practice. For one thing, Meridian and MRP are both SOEs, as is Genesis. Why it's more efficient to have three companies with the same owner pretending to compete escapes me.
