If America was here, he;d have voided the Sherman anti-trust act by decree.

Maybe the site should get https. (So that IT can't read what their workers are looking at).

There are ISO standards and the like around chemical products, as well as technologies to measure purity.
If parliament was really concerned for the health of drug users, they would require that restricted substances were appropriately certified to contain what it says on the tin.

Very few chose to use them, including newspapers that will run listings for Sky channels with much smaller audiences.
Do the papers charge to carry the listings, though? (I know that in the UK at least, it cost money to have a paper carry a non-FTSE100 companies stock price).

Fooman, you got it. Maybe if Cosmic Corner had the funds to take Dunne on an all expenses paid "awayday", then he’d be more amenable to them.

Only as a last resort would they auction off assets and spectrum
A lot of commercial contracts have a clause that voids them if one party enters liquidation/bankruptcy. I wonder whether spectrum licenses do (or whether, in keeping with the mug-punter approach of the NZ government generally, they forgot).

I reckon the problem with many online communities is that they want to be inclusive. Inclusive is good, mmk.
So there isn't a message that pops up when you post:
This community caters for a range of opinions between <insert> and <insert> You should be technology positive and non-bigoted (although we do permit xenophobia if targeted against <insert disliked group here>). Also, you should appreciate <insert site owner's favourite bands, electronic products and football code>
But really, there should be. Because discussion between a large group with disparate ideas doesn't really work. Look at commentisfree or the copyright thread (ok, that's just two people with different ideas).
Maybe the Labour Party should have such a statement too (the Greens do).

the risk of Mediaworks' failure was such as to justify financing
I can understand the government needing to bail out a bank, Air New Zealand, maybe even a telco.
But why should one of our numerous commercial radio operators be so important as to justify a bailout? If they'd gone bust, then presumably others might have bid for the frequencies, or they could just have been added to the unlicensed 'guard band" spectrum if there were no takers.
I'm afraid that it looks very much to me that Mediaworks are "Too Good A National Supporter To Fail".

Also, I get the impression that if PON is deployed, it can only be upgraded on a district at once basis - all the splitters, exchange and premise equipment would have to be changed (or an entire duplicate set of gear cut over to).
Is that right?

[Apart from entrenched basic law, which is a tricky issue], no parliament can bind a successor. If a regulatory holiday is entrenched in statute, it could be repealed. There would be no compensation, just as you can't sue the government for making you pay more GST.
