Thanks, Jonathan. From a non-profit view, can I also take recommend Creative Commons Aotearoa. The assumption there is that you'll license how you want people to *share* your works, rather than forbid that.

Those people all have other conversations outside here, drawing on what's shared. Everyone contributes in their own way, just like the rest of life. Perhaps less 'creepy' if you think of it like that.

I reckon the Herald might be open to doing something cooperative to educate their staff properly around this. And maybe build on that into a bigger statement of leadership on their part as we all grapple with how IP affects business models in publishing and other industries.

This editorial is pure tosh. The logic is missing totally and the writer does not understand the funding mechanism of NZOA. Commercial broadcasters decide what "rates" and ignore everything else as "Worthwhile" or worthy" which are perjorative words in commercial TV circles.
The result is we have a parade of freak shows where grotesquely fat people fart and wet their pants in prime time, snarky chefs bully hapless amateur cooks and a gang of Maori boozers and rooters on the Gold Coast demonstrate their bad behaviour and moronic culture.
Keeping the audience dumbed down is part of the process of disempowering citizens and turning them into consumers. That's what this government wants.

Some space for hotel rebuilds nearby I understand. I guess the land might be slightly more stable or something - unless the reasons are mainly pork-oriented.
