I have my fingers crossed for the restoration of the St James Theatre, as this was a terrific live music venue, and I used to love going to gigs there.
Same. And cosying up to SkyCity removes the one major prospect of restoring the St James as part of a competing convention centre proposal. Most cities would value their heritage buildings more, expecially when we have so few left after the wanton destruction of the 1980s.

Town centres predominantly servicing poor people, in that case largely non-Pakeha ones. Denied civic amenities like a swimming pool for several decades while wealthier suburbs got their beaches re-sanded for free. But please don't think Brewer's position is that of the whole Council or even the whole right bloc.

Happened years ago, spurred on by woeful transport/urban planning that encouraged shoddy chicken-coop apartments for predominantly Asian tertiary/language school students and made free parking at suburban malls more attractive.
Swing in the other direction in last few years with intensive development, but mainly at the bottom of town. Some high-end global brands there too, not catering much for locals day-to-day. New CBD supermarkets might help, and gradual change in composition of residents but available apartment stock now not matching that well.
