If a journalist says they don’t need to be pedantic then aren’t they also saying they don’t need to be paid any more? Because at that point they are not doing their job.
Before downsizing of newsrooms, verifying facts used to be someone else's job I guess - especially for 'senior' journos. Failure to do it is certainly not professional in a broader sense.

The 6 o'clock tv news is useful for that. I draw the line at commercial radio, though.

As Matthew said on the other thread, a written constitution is a red herring in the short term. We can do better with what we already have. Our political system relies on opposition parties, political movements, media, and a 3-year electoral cycle as its main check and balance on Executive power.
However, the system is fairly easily gamed, including by allowing ruling parties to appoint enough MPs to Associate and outside-Cabinet ministerial roles to buy their ongoing support in caucus and dilute internal accountability.
Our nation's poor grasp of governance in both civic and business circles doesn't help.

The argument that Internet access is fundamental to free speech relates to the quantity of discourse and volume of information that is only accessible electronically. To be denied access is to be denied full participation.
Still the situation for some disabled and elderly New Zealanders.
