Calling honestly-expressed personal recollections "platitudes" is downright rude.
Slagging someone on the day they died is not good form in anyone's book. Basic human respect. The Standard had a thread of snarking from the get-go if anyone was desperate to show off their alienation or cynical hipster cred.
A couple of days later, bring on the challenging viewpoints by all means.

After our wonderful Civic tour courtesy of Malcolm, I suggested a Sunday arvo once a month at Elliot Stables or somewhere easy to add on as many as turn up. Sadly haven't had the werewithal to follow up since. I still owe him a malt too.

Jacinda Ardern raised the issue of too much of the ideological (or institutional) response to 'difference' being built on the premise that individuals should be assisted in rising above their personal circumstances, so they eventually turn out 'alright'.
Normalisation is more convenient for the helpers. Good analysis and articulation. I'm so looking forward to that woman being our Minister of Social Development.

I can verify it looks damn fine on the free-to-use HP tablets down at their 'Wintergarden' demo dome at the far end of Wynyard Quarter's main drag (shared with Kokako coffee). Encouraged the HP reps to use this as a great example of a media-optimised local site. <waves>
And Wynyard is as amazing as everyone says (though I didn't sample the expensive eateries). If you're in Auckland, do head on down sometime.
