At best, I'd read that as misinterpreting Arie's demeanour under stress. Easy enough in the initial arrest situation but should have no influence on Police actions after that.
At worst, this character assassination in passing betrays the attitude of top brass at having to let this go. Wounded pride, that sort of thing. They really need to grow up or be replaced. What an embarrassment to their colleagues.

Ignorance seems to have been the problem
From the higher-ups rather than the original arresting officers, really - and a fair degree of knowing pig-headedness. Needs more than a brochure to fix that. Attitudes, processes and behaviours must improve across the whole Police force, which is also not just a matter of handing around a few factsheets.

Sad thing is that Curran's angry outburst against her party's main potential MMP ally comes on the same day as Key gets publicity about National's support partners.
You'd expect a coordinated and disciplined political communications strategy would firmly park individual egos at the door. The left and its constituents deserve so much better. And they're saying so.
