Arie withdraws guilty plea, seeks diversion.
The sentencing was meant to be held at a Christchurch District Court sitting in the Rangiora Court House today but instead leave was granted for his guilty pleas to be withdrawn and diversion to be considered.
Defence counsel Jonathan Eaton said he had been told the police would not consider diversion – which allows first offenders to avoid having a conviction – for earthquake-related offending, but he suggested the case may also be considered for a discharge without conviction since Smith-Voorkamp had already spent time in prison.

Uniforms are imposed, not chosen collectively. Those who have to wear the things seldom get any say - so perhaps not the example you were looking for.

One big difference: the Eiffel never pretended to be an ersatz imitation of anything.
It also didn't have writing on it saying "Paris, the city of cheese" or suchlike.
I understand content is beyond the ambit of planning/consent authorities (and thank you for the detailed explanation, Tom). The organisation I'd expect to want some say over the silly Welly sign is their regional tourism/economic development agency. That's their job.

Note the word "Trim" entering the media in the last few weeks. What's the bet it was focus-grouped then deliberately spread via coherent talking points and compliant journos..I also love how the financial press prefers the word "Ease" to "Loss"

WFF has perhaps unduly suppressed wage growth through workers without dependants funding the living cost of workers with dependants.
Working For Families is essentially a subsidy for employers so they don't need to lift their game to produce higher sustainable wages.

Exactly - and it won't happen while managers, governors and owners keep telling themselves that NZ's poor productivity is nothing to do with their own weaknesses compared with the rest of the world (as global research tells us).
Improving productivity here needs a large element of leadership skill development. There's no shame in that. However the sight of the Farmers Federation dandy declaring his ilk should be "revered" makes us a laughing stock. And it does nothing for the overall economy.

Which sadly renders planners impotent over the core issue (though Council always has other avenues of influence like their ownership stake in the airport company). I guess there would be nothing to stop owners putting a big sign on their cbd office block saying "Absolutely Poxily Wellington" then.
