That these silly 'standards' don't work for disabled students is merely a subset of them not working for anyone.
In stark contrast with our world-leading and forward-looking curriculum, the whole sad approach is so resolutely old-fashioned that I'm surprised Tolley is not doling out stone tablets or insisting that students salute the flag like Merv Wellington did.

But English isn't flat out lying - he's bullshitting. Inflation IS low. Real after tax wages ARE higher.
The lying comes in statements about what those facts mean - for instance, that low growth rates mean people are 'saving' rather than just poor.
By all means, report the claims - but also the other detail and reasoning that allows the public to make properly informed decisions.
That does not mean a hands-off free market where you must wait for someone else to say it - an approach that works really well if you're the person who happens to have the megaphone. As Russell said, truth to power was part of the trade-off for the privilege of owning a printing press.
I agree about the poor quality of opposition, but that's not the whole picture.

Danyl, fine to report differences of opinion but lies about fact should be pointed out as such. That's what journalism used to be before the free market version you're talking about took hold. "Objectivity" doesn't mean giving equal space to flat earthers.
Oh and multiple snaps.

English was also Minister of Finance at the end of the 1990s, so he knows exactly how to turn a global financial crisis (Asian in that case) into a local diasaster for all but the richest New Zealanders and gleeful foreign buyers and banks.
Cutting public spending to solve private debt and lack of savings and export earnings is just loony neoliberalism.
Voters who elected this government can hardly be surprised that most of Cabinet who were there in the 90s have not improved their intellect in the meantime.
