Hearing some ignorant, uncontextualised blather about "freedom of speech" - even from some surprising quarters like Wallace Chapman.
The principle of free speech is very simple: we either defend opinions that we find hateful, or we do not defend them at all. Public broadcasting or private.

Lhaws joins the apology roadshow - note increasingly creative vocabulary being deployed by these muppets to avoid responsibility for their ongoing rude, hurtful actions and intent.
I reserve the right to be controversial and outspoken.
But my off-air comments, in particular, crossed the line from puckish to insulting, and although that was not my intent, it was still inappropriate.

Idiot/Savant questions the accountability of the *other* local bodies just elected - District Health Boards.
Legally, they are accountable to the Minister, not to us. If they advocate on behalf of their electors, they can be sacked. And their decision-making power is mostly an illusion. Both their strategic and annual plans must be signed off by the Minister. More importantly, their funding, and what it is spent on, is dictated by the Minister. A DHB has very little discretion on how their money is spent. Instead, they are effectively elected managers, all accountability with no responsibility.
