    Where is she now?

Appearing in at least one tragically bad student film, judging by Youtube's related clips. Anyone feeling bad about our local film industry should find it uplifting.

Greg O'Connor as usual seems to be on planet No-Evidence-Needed - but then that's a popular place with the current govt, so he probably feels safe mouthing off.

Here's an idea. Talk to your cabinet ministers before they open their big mouths.

Uh, Collins gave the same answer on Campbell Live last night. I may have missed it but have other Ministers been talking or was that a flip-flop from her? Or are her and Key actually on the same page?

  • OnPoint: Like a hole in the head,

The Herald missed Keith's well-spotted point about the cost-benefit analysis being for a publicly-run prison not a PPP one. The proposal's other logic defects are all too obvious. Glad to see the Herald noting the bigger picture.

Thus, rather than applauding benefits to be had from higher crime and more prisoners, Ms Collins should be concentrating on the economic pluses of reducing the jail population. She needs to comprehensively reset her compass.

So from my schooling here the mayoralty is actually bullshit, we are voting on a more soviet style grand comittee. The Mayor is just one vote.

More powerful than that, with some executive powers no other Mayor in NZ has ever had - but yes, apply the same line of questioning to all the Councillors too.

  • Hard News: The Munter and the Munted,

Can't remember if it was already mentioned, but Loretta's blog has another angle on the demise of Gerard.

There’s an image of me, running out of the house, looking over the balcony. I see Pascalle, and for some unknown reason she’s lying in the garden – and I’m thinking WTF? And then I see there’s blood on her.

And I see Mum – she’s kinda fallen back on the stairs, and she’s sort of holding her ear – I guess because one of the gunshots had just whistled past it. And she’s looking – confused, is the best word. And she looks up at me, for just a second, before these cops appear from nowhere and just, sort of, engulf her.

And I have no idea what the fuck just happened, until I step right up to the handrail, and I look down and there’s Gerard, lying on his back, there’s a gun on the ground beside him and there’s blood just pissing out his neck. And suddenly there are people all over him too, trying to stop the blood.

  • OnPoint: Vote! Kean for Columbia,

From what I've seen, Giovanni, Nicola has taken a leap of faith by signing up for that course and is now trying to fund it. I guess the same might be said of the various sportspeople and performers who are competing for this particular prize. They will probably find it simpler to get people to vote for them (without questioning why "I want to hit a ball around overseas" adds value to this country), so I wouldn't say "sown up" by any means.

I do respect your suspicion of this as well - it's not how we expect things to be done. I remember film-maker Reina Webster teling me she had to call on significant iwi money to pay her way through film school in New York, on the understanding that her skills would enrich her people when she returned. I imagine it would have been just as hard to raise the six figure sum needed for that endeavour this way.

slay us with policy and strategy anyone please

Good luck with that - in an expensive presidential-style campaign like this, any actual policy poisitions are even more likely to be subjected to vicious, deliberate spin and get drowned out by lightweight media focussing on what colour tie a candidate chooses (and that's just the women). The internet is way more likely to inform you.

Best question for voters to ask - "who do I trust with local government in the Auckland region? Who's going to stick up for what I believe in as things shake out?"

And then get you, your friends, family and colleagues to register and vote.
