he was pretty much quoting Rick Giles

That's what I thought - surely someone twigged but it didn't seem to be Henry

Libertarianism is really inspired cover for any silly argument, though - great choice.

if Williams really was some right-wing loon pretending to be gay, or a feminist or a greenie

Now there's one I doubt they'd pull off - though with a spectacular up-sucking fool like Henry, who knows.

A shame also that Williams clearly didn't throw in any foibles of personal appearance to bring out Henry's barely concealed inner 13-year-old.

Didn't our host throw in a crack about "fat chicks" just before the segment? Great to see that all the effort people put into complaining through official channels has paid off.

From that Herald story, our fake spokesperson rejects tvnz's face-saving claims:

    Williams rejected Henry's response.

"Paul Henry did not catch on to me. It was not until an hour later after the show had finished that they stripped it off the internet.

"[The news bulletin] had my story in it every 20 minutes up until they found out it was a hoax.

"I'm very opposed to the way these shows carry themselves, you just see the crap they're putting on there and I thought: 'I'll give you some more crap' ..."

Bart, can you describe the situation because I have never seen that for me or anyone around me (and I'm having trouble imagining how it would work).

Race and ethnicity are also not the same thing. The police seem to have an interesting time with that, but then they're trying to describe someone's glanced exterior rather than surveying a person about what cultures they belong to.

do they say "I'm European" or do they say "I'm Dutch"

Part of the issue with our own official ethnicity categorisation is the way what people call themselves (Dutch, Korean, Korean New Zealander) gets aggregated into blunt categories like European or Asian that a person would not use about themselves - but which policy is often expressed in.

Ae, but it doesn't say much for conventional politics when we have to rely on C4 and comedy proteges to bring the smart activism

Quite Ali G. Despite the bluster of the official media release that Mr Henry spotted the fake during the interview, I reckon he got well punked.

Though "libertarian" should have rung some bells after the all-powerful young Actoid Rick Giles graced our screens recently. 'Jay Pryor' was more coherent than that (not that it's saying much) but I certainly didn't see any sign that his oafish host had figured out he wasn't the real deal.
