But it fits the narrative of standing up for Auckland against bloody-minded government interference.

Got to love the opportunistic hand-wringing when the super-prison has been known about for ages. You'd almost think there was an election coming up.

Like rail corridors, the govt-owned property in question is outside some standard planning controls - like height in this case, it seems. As the Herald story notes, the Council could not appeal the consent once the independent commissioners had granted it.

It's just another example of our warped planning laws that have contributed to the cheap ugliness and disrespect for surroundings that have characterised much of central Auckland's development for decades. That's a problem that straddles the political spectrum, as do the answers.

It's quite easy to avoid crap on Twitter - just don't follow people who produce it. One click of a button, and none of the palaver of trying to disengage from Facebook by all accounts.

I believe it's presented misleadingly - it's who and what you are paying attention to, not "what you're doing".

Twitter can easily be about listening more than talking, and forwarding whatever most grabs your attention. You could look at it as a smart human search system to filter out the best stuff, kind of like PAS.

the only way any evil ACT-supporting scum are going to notice shit about what happens in Mount Eden Prison is

...if any of the fraudulent feckers who fleeced the elderly through finance companies actually get sent there. Fat chance, I know, especially with toothless wastes of space like our "securities commission" in charge.
