  • Cracker: Go Figure,

The flag non-issue gets trotted out the first week of February every damn year

Quite. Interesting to see the difference in tone this year. Seems not just the Herald that are having a less fiery conversation. Though I'm not conversant with talkbackland, and I imagine actually seeing the Tinorangatiratanga flag flying will inflame a few passions tomorrow.

So it's aggregation at the product end like albums were, just at a more currently marketable level?

sued the ISP iiNet - and lost.

And established some precedent for ISPs not being liable for what is done over their networks, as I understand.

Much interest burbling, and possibly worthy of its own thread to avoid swamping others - though the title of this one might be appropriate.

I don't think anyone would dispute that they're the same

They needed Auckland University's IP advisors on their side. I'm sure it was all inadvertent.

  • Hard News: Hell's Bells,

They sounded good from Point Chevalier – and, I am told, Mt Albert, Kingsland and a number of other suburbs.

Oh yes. Thunderstruck in minute detail, whether desired or not.

  • Hard News: Start with your conclusion,

By the time Franklin and the current board are finished I bet we'll have a large food hall and an expensive wedding venue

It's probably all that these overfed corporate tossers can relate to - art is only what they invest in for their office walls, so why would you need to worry about having a place for people to create it or rework its history?

The removal of the name, Great Hall, is an insult to those it is named after.

I remember a Six Volts gig in that hall and it was a spectacularly resonant place (both historically and musically). Knowing Rutherford's lab was feet away was the icing on the cake. The cinema on the Dux end of the site was good. Improv performances in another wing showcased the creativity of friends. And Film Society screenings were up a winding staircase with solid worn wood and stone all around. Would have to have coloured my early encounters with Cocteau, Renoir, Visconti, et al.

I haven't seen what they have done to the Centre since but it sounds like our usual practice as a callow nation of trying to make a taonga pay for itself, rather than nourishing and honouring it.
