Thanks, Ben. And 'safe drug' is up there with military intelligence and honest politician.

I'm comparing the behaviour of tobacco smokers with cannabis smokers, anecdatally. One seems more likely to be constant consumption many times a day than the other. Dosage affects cancer, etc. That's my logic.
Happy to be shown evidence that disagrees with that, but must now focus on preparing for the lovely weekend of Foo-ness ahead. May drop back in.

NCEA gap closes says Salvation Army policy unit.
Qualifications Authority data shows that the gains vary widely. Pass rates have stayed under 30 per cent at some decile one schools, such as Southern Cross in Mangere and Otara's Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate.
At the other extreme, the most dramatic lift among South Auckland's eight decile one high schools was at the Catholic De La Salle College, where the level one pass rate in Year 11 soared from 28 per cent in 2005 to 64 per cent in 2008.
Principal Brother Steve Hogan said all decile one high schools in the areas had benefited from extra professional development under the former "Aim Hi" programme, based on recognising that students in low-decile schools learned at widely varying rates and needed to be treated individually.
Note the point at the end about the better figures to measure showing a more modest improvement.

as bad as smoking tobacco
Anyone who's smoking enough cannabis for that to be true has other problems.

In using the term "out of touch", I feel that you're being quite.. umm.. what is it? Polite? Kind? Generous? Strategic?
I'll take the first three - for novelty value, you understand :)

It wouldn't work in Auckland.
Probably right, and Webstock draws on exceptional people and a close industry clustered in a relatively small place and supported over time by some farsighted investments like Citylink. Auckland often lacks that feeling of a centre.
However, Christopher, take heart that we have the scale and diversity to host things like the international Creative Industries Conference instead. And pretty much anything else that doesn't depend on central government patronage or contracts.
Welli should keep the Sevens and WOW though. And Webstock.

You may be underestimating the public appetite for "toughness" on crime

Webstock is a shining example of what this nation needs to be producing more of, drawing on our creativity, hospitality and intelligence to produce world-beating experiences and brands.
And I love that the awards have a category for accessibility. On yous.
