both of these scenarios have a positive effect on the economy
Growing export and local businesses has a positive effect. Flasher houses are a diversion and a prime reason our private sector owes the world so much. Speculative capital flows and lax regulation encouraged leveraged gambling with something of so little real value.

what I have found is, taking into account movements in the prices of materials, the cost of Labour is tracking significantly downward towards the minimum wage.
There is a reluctance to pay for quality.

Labour hasn’t done as much as for workers in their 9 years as people blindly and willingly attribute to them.
And they sure didn't do anything to reverse Richardson and Shipley's evil benefit slashing.

Study finds that TV coverage of the Sevens has one minute of booze culture promotion for every 11 minutes of rugby.
Massey University researchers have put the Wellington tournament under the spotlight and analysed television coverage of last year's event to see how often viewers were exposed to alcohol promotions.
Researchers measured both "non-standard" advertising, such as billboards and logos, and "indirect promotion" via camera shots of the crowd drinking. They found that, for every hour of television coverage, there were four minutes and 19.4 seconds of alcohol promotion – or nearly one minute for every 11 minutes of rugby.
The footage analysed did not include advertising breaks, which did not feature any alcohol advertisements.

Feel free to link to some evidence about that. Preferably including the relationship with incomes that people use to buy with.

Didn't they increase the minimum wage from about $8 in 1999 to about $12 in 2008? Can't find the data easily on the bleddy StatsNZ site.
People tend to support a $15 minimum wage up to a point and that point is when they have to pay for it.
Offset by changes in Working For Families and reduced uptake of other social services. The Nats will be changing all that anyway, along with wholesale benefit system restructuring.
