But that's not what the poster was saying, is it? To me the concern expressed is about the public implications of John Key's behaviour for all of us making voting decisions, not about Bronagh's feelings. Here's what was actually posted again:

But Key wasn't one - he was a speculator who helped design some of the derivatives that fucked the global economy. A gambler with other people's money, in short. But let's not pretend he is the only one running the government's economic policy, either.

However (without having read the source I must emphasise), I'd say he seems understandably caught in a 1950s dichotomy that does not apply so neatly now - unlike radio, tv or newspapers, online and social media have linkable continuity and archival memory as well as reach and immediate impact. But then Gladwell would disagree..

What, you don't think the commenter's concern about what Key's actions say about his character are valid? Didn't think it was over the top - or that Bronagh is some sort of silent victim of public brutality either. But we do still have some stake in the kind of person we want representing our country, don't we?
For my part, I think it says a lot about his character – not only in what backing Veitch says about him, as you’ve pointed out, but what expressing envy of Tiger Woods’ adultery and nominating celebs he’d like to shaft says about him – that he’s that kind of Kiwi bloke who thinks nothing of humiliating his wife in public. Prime Ministerial it ain’t.
