Speaker: Correcting Auckland 2040's…, in reply to Glenn Pearce,
How cynical of housing New Zealand to want to build more houses for poor people.

Speaker: Correcting Auckland 2040's…, in reply to Marc C,
Marc,
The MHU still has density limits in terms of height, height to boundary, site coverage etc. in fact in terms of the structure able to be built, the change you refer to does not affect this at all.

I was very pleased to see that there was a mechanism for the councils 70% goal to be checked as achievable, with changes if necessary. I have always thought planning is about as far from the "rule of law" ideal we have in NZ, but this process is quite good in that respect.

Goenn, it sounds like you are advocating for the ability to submit on any changes to the PAUP. Where would it end?

"And David Farrar intoned darkly about opportunity costs, as if doing something about access to post-school education necessarily rules out doing something for pre-school kids."
Given we already have student loans that in practice function as a progressive tax on graduates there is no increase in access resulting from this policy that I can see.

Hard News: The CRL and the nature of change, in reply to Sacha,
Right so this necessary so the council could confirm disruptiveness? This was being sold by some as having projects essentially contingent on the CRL.

"The realities of other CBD developments, principally but not only the demolition and rebuilding of Downtown Mall, meant the delay imposed by the government would increase both the cost and disruption caused by the project. This isn’t even news."
The downtown mall is already underway with the section of CRL through its site being progressed as part of the early works packages. So not really a reason there that I can see.

Do you think Trump calls himself a politician? I think the "I'm not a politician" line will actually resonate with a lot of people.

Hard News: Art with a job to do, in reply to Matthew Hooton,
Just by the way, New Zealand has grassy-green or snowy-white mountains. Australia has red peaks.
Ever heard of scoria Matthew? Ever done the Tongariro Crossing? You know NZs most popular and world famous Alpine walk?
