Hard News: Rape and unreason, in reply to BenWilson,
There categorically is a large section of the public that believes this, hence why we have to visibly fight these attitudes.

Hard News: Rape and unreason, in reply to Megan Wegan,
This. Precisely so. It is fear of looking the real situation in the face.

Up Front: Or It's Who We're Drinking With..., in reply to RaggedJoe,
It is super lovely to hear a male perspective on hugs. I think kiwi men are going to get huggier in time.

Up Front: Or It's Who We're Drinking With..., in reply to Emma Hart,
Exactly this. It is profoundly confusing and depressing. It feels so much more performative to kiss a woman in a bar than you always want it to be.

Hard News: Why did Stephen die?, in reply to paulalambert,
I really think retaining the right to search has a lot to do with it. Years ago when I lived off K Rd I had a van load of cops insisting they needed to enter my house when I was having a party because they 'followed a guy who smelled of pot to this address'. There were 4 officers. I refused to let them in as they couldn't even give me description of this 'suspect'. I told them I had keys to all areas of the house and would be happy to let them in if they had a lawful purpose.
I think they were hoping to catch someone smoking P and assumed by the look of me and my friends that busting up our party would net a few drug arrests (they were wrong).
Lazy policing.

I am tearing up just reading that. When this goes through I am going to bawl.

Yep, right up there with 'not recalling' where you stood on the Springbok tour back in the day...

Definitely going to reread _The Dispossessed_ again, it has been a while. I do seem to only get into rereading things rather than trying something new though...

Up Front: Towards a Sex-Positive Utopia, in reply to BenWilson,
I am really a big fan. Proud that she is ours and in awe of what she does.
Still thinking a lot about exploitation as a result.
