At one point one of the commentators said, "Chokljat all over George", and I quite lost my train of thought.

It was a really painful game to watch. The Ferns just looked so flat, including players who are usually just fizzing all the time.

My first thought on seeing that paragraph yesterday (well maybe my second thought if you count spluttering expletives) was "Emma's going to post angry".

You should have seen it, I was actually completely speechless.

It's also pretty demeaning to blokes, as if they are Incapable! of Restraining! Themselves! due to their animalistic penis-brains. Erm, no.

Oh, Word. I don't think anyone's ever made an arse of themselves to me in public without one of my male friends telling him he was being a cock. While of course simultaenously respecting my ability to take care of myself.

From my experience, they should be telling women that if they don't want 'unwanted male attention', they shouldn 't go out wearing geek t-shirts.

  • Hard News: Home, straight,

I can't cope with puns. When it comes to puns, I'm copeless.

Then welcome to the Coper Cabana, Steve.

  • Up Front: The Up Front Guide to Parenting,

In my job at Bardic Web, at one point I spent a lot of my time dealing with our Terms of Service (TOS) and our Code of Conduct (COC). I'd been referring to the TOS and the COC in online discussions for years before I ever said it out loud. Now I giggle all the damn time, because like Danielle I am twelve.

Careful, Danielle, you're damaging your cause by being angry.

I'm glad you made that joke before someone actually said it seriously. :)

Only bloody just. I really think I deserve some kind of 'predicting the internet' prize for that.

How depressing is it that the more cynical I become, the more often I'm right?

Edwards' position may be flawed (and probably is), but it's based on perceived harm reduction.

3410, from what I've seen, ALL arguments against gay adoption are based on perceived harm reduction. The problem being that the perception of harm can be based on a homophobic position.

So the question might become, if BE was pointed at the research I linked to on the previous page which shows no difference in outcomes for children of two-parent straight and two-parent gay households, would he change his mind?

Dude, I *cope* with it fine. I just think it's fucking stupid as hell. Is that allowed?

Careful, Danielle, you're damaging your cause by being angry.

I, of course, think the best adoptive parent for a baby is an invisible gay unicorn. There are, after all, no recorded examples at all of a child ever being abused by an invisible gay unicorn parent. It's another point of view! Learn to cope!

  • Field Theory: This one has rugby in it,

Just suppose Richie McCaw and Dan Carter got together - how many kiwis would still object to them adopting?

Indeed, we'd merrily donate our infant manchilds to the happy couple.

    I'd donate EGGS.

(Sorry for the delay, I was pruning my roses.)

His opposition seems, to me, to be rooted in his belief that boys who grow up without fathers are significantly disadvantaged by it; a belief based on his own experience. Having also had that experience, I agree with him, though I'm not sure that the conclusion follows.

Not to ring the familiar too hard here, but research simply doesn't back that belief up.

I say varsity. And before that, I spent several years at ool.

Uni, which I think was pretty consistent through my social group. Maybe it makes a difference which uni you went to. And before that I went to high school (hi sch?) not college.
