I just flew to Chch and back, and the destination not withstanding, the service was fine, the flights were on time and very pleasant, the selfcheck in was very easy.
Hey... Those self-check-in machines are the business, though, so easy. And every time I fly, we get to teach somebody new how to use them.

Mikaere, your story is beautiful. Rob, your story is really gross.

I used to be a blood donor before my CFS - like steven I find the whole blood-extraction process fascinating. And I'm O+, you don't get much more blood-boring than that. (My midwife was quite upset that I wasn't interested in getting our son's blood type from the heel prick test. I'm O+, my partner is O+, any kind of surprise re our son's blood type would be a really big surprise.)
The blood tests were basically to find out if I had some kind of bleeding or clotting disorder that might explain the lack of sight in the bottom half of my visual field in my right eye, or if it's nerve damage. Over the years, with chronic mystery illness and two babies, I'm pretty sure I've had every test on the damn form.

I killed off any disposition to becoming a regular smoker by trying (admittedly drunkenly) to drink one of those suckers.
Stewart, tell me you used to live in Chch and your name is actually Steve, because I'd hate to think there were two people who'd done this.

BTW, what do you make of Roger and his new threads?
Sorry, dude, I'm a fan of the Singleted Chipmonk. Before that it was Andre - yes Patricia, Federer reminds me of Sampras.
Somewhere I have a picture of Goran Ivanesivic naked holding the Wimbledon trophy, but I still have some residual respect for Hadyn's eyes.

Recomended listening for this activity, Winter Coat by Paul Kelly.
...been going round my head as well. It's either that or 'Fired our guns and the British kept a-coming...'
Two songs I love, but didn't have running through my head. Previously. I love Paul Kelly, but my partner can't stand him.
Loving all the coat love, by the way.
Too much black can get boring, but there's a reason why men's formalwear only comes in black*: it's sharp, sculptural and elegant.
A male friend of mine has a very beautiful black overcoat purchased from Smith and Caughey's (who apparently now have a brand called Not Your Daughter's Jeans) which makes him look very hot indeed.
Photos, please?
I shall see if can get my daughter to take some tomorrow. You can all be disappointed - it's a very ordinary coat.

I'm getting horrible Sarah Palin flashbacks on this thread - defending someone I actually can't stand.
The second half of the second column I did here was about Mosley. He didn't shut up, he sued the News of the World for invasion of privacy and won - an experience that may well have been just extra peachy keen for his wife. (Oddly this section of his Wikipedia article has vanished.)
But there were no swastikas. There were no Nazi uniforms. The paper offered the dominatrix several thousand extra pounds if she could get him to do, y'know, something fascist. She said he never used the word 'Nazi' in their discussions - apparently the sound of German just gets him off.
I'm pretty shitted that I seem to be defending the guy, I just think it should be possible to criticize him for things he's actually done .

Nazis: bastards of the highest order but snappy dressers.
"Green says Nazis 'Snappy Dressers'"
You know my favourite thing about the Nazis? All their hot blonde chicks.

And then I have to tell them that I got it for 5 bucks at a charity shop, and they will never ever ever have a coat like mine. (And then I blow raspberries and skip away.)
That's the spirit!
Are you looking for more praise?
If I were, I'd have posted pictures of my coat like Deborah asked. (I don't have any pictures of my coat.)
Then I remembered that I already had, in another place, a long time ago.
Wow. Our lot liked trench coats with huge pockets so they could carry their water pistols in them. Though that didn't explain the penchant for jackboots.

I assume "fuck it it fits me" will also produce high-waisted jeans with room for actual hip/bottoms?
Indeed. We're big on waistage.
I have a good coat story too, but it happened to someone else.
Don't let that stop you.
This indicates that you, like the entire F1 racing industry, supports Hitler. Just to make you aware.
Pretty much this exact thought went through my head, but I didn't want to say it.
