Hi David -- this is good news. And it reminds me: Conrad of the Economist fame left your bike key with me. How urgently do you need it? Email me if you like.

The best music of 2011 for me was live: The Clean at CPSA on election night, Shayne P Carter at Kings Arms in May and in Chch in November, Campbell Kneale's amazing noise project Our Love Will Destroy the World at the Lines of Flight festival in Port Chalmers in March -- and at the same festival, a dishevelled (but no less enjoyable for that) Dead C and the truly unusual Wellington act Sign of the Hag.
Shameless self-promo dept: my films of the year and most of the books I read:

Who's selling the book?
In Christchurch, Scorpio. Bought one there on Friday.

This BBC blog, from back in January, is interesting for the Murdoch backstory: clips of BBC coverage of Murdoch, going back to the 60s. The Panorama doco from 1981 is especially good:

Hard News: Three months after, in reply to Lilith __,
I was thinking last night that Chch is like an alcoholic spouse who keeps promising to go straight. I don’t want to give up on it, but I’m losing faith.
Time for a cover version: "Christchurch I love you but you're bringing me down."

Was going to come back and say "but what about these two?" But sadly YouTube has neither "Burn it up" (SJ Fits) or "Scrapbook" (Dimmer). Two very, very good songs.

Why no clips?
Yes, Randolph is a truly beautiful song. The Doublehappys one apparently shot at Chris Knox's place. Dialling a Prayer: said by, I think Andrew Mueller, to have the only sarcastic finger clicks in rock history. Or something like that. I prefer it to She Speeds too.
Looking forward to Shayne bringing this south. Love this too:

And *I* thought trolls were very unpleasant people that lived under bridges.
