And consequently, there was much time for contemplation.

Ah yes, aren't those the luxury times we begin to cherish as the best. Ruby reminds me of the bit of freedom dogs can still possess. Bet she already steals hearts.:)
As my break draws to an end, I am in the process of documenting trees. Here is a shot of the wee cones/seeds of the many Kahikatea that adorn the bush which the birds love. The trees are abundant at the moment.

How do we “punish” people via loss of liberty and attempt to rehabilitate them without throwing them all in a bin together?
  home detention?

We do all that now. We also attempt to throw people together according to crime. Minimal offence will get one into minimum security prisons such as Rangipo Minimum and move on up to medium security at Rangipo for a larger offence. Here is a list to get an idea of just how many we have, ( for now).

Still roamin' . Off to the Waterfront Festival in Mangonui today. The sun has just burst through the ,what looked like ugly weather clouds and an organiser/friend will be happy. She has worked on this for some time so I expect it will be a great afternoon (yes there will be photos:)
Meanwhile the pods on the swan tree are getting set to free themselves....

But this thread is about holidays and as I am currently on my holidays,

I am taking a break myself. At the same time I'll just pop in a RIP David Sheppard, dear friend.
