Steve Braunias: The Secret Diary of Brian Tamaki
-
In Destiny Church news, Brian Tamaki blames the earthquakes on gays, sinners, and murderers. I guess they must have all jumped up and down at the same time. Whoever would have known that Kaikoura was such a hotbed of murderous, homosexual imperfection.

For the record, Nicky Hager has been awarded interim legal costs of $232,672.78 against the Police, relating to their obtaining a warrant illegally to search his home as part of the Dirty Politics witchhunt.

Hard News: #eqnz: Okay?, in reply to JLM,
We live 300 metres from a beach north of Dunedin but 13 metres up.
The street across the lagoon and Waitati were both evacuated.
We’re over the hill from you in Long Beach… at sea level. We’d just driven home from ChCh and gone to bed, and felt the first quake as a 1-2 minute gentle sideways movement, at the same time as RNZ was live reporting the situation from the Wgtn studio. It was damn spooky as we rarely feel earthquakes here.
There was no damage so we fell asleep, until our daughter rang from Germany to tell us we had to evacuate. We could hear distant sirens and assumed they were coming from the radio, until we went outside. The Police were driving around the village with sirens on and evacuated us all to the top of the hill.
I’d also like to throw in a big thank you to RNZ. In times like these Nat Radio is a reassuring voice.

The Guardian has a lovely piece from Margaret Atwood - Just like the Wizard of Oz, Donald Trump has no magic powers
And if you haven't done it yet, bung in a Google search on wankpuffin

Hard News: Be careful what you wish for, in reply to Greg Akehurst,
What was the overall turnout %?
The turnout rate was 55.6% – meaning 44.4% of eligible US voters couldn’t be arsed.
The Elections Project site is down at the moment so this info comes via Vox.

Steve Braunias: How Donald Trump won
-
While I've never followed any previous US election this closely, I guess that applies to half the world... in a watching-a-train-wreck-as-absurdity-overtakes-reality kinda way. It's been an almost numbing experience.
While it's not in the best of taste, I'd like to share my favourite quote of the campaign so far -- Seth McFarlane describing Donald Trump's massive ego.
"When Trump bangs a supermodel, he closes his eyes and imagines he's jerking off."
And for those who can't be bothered with session cookies, the Washington Post is giving all readers free digital access for the next two days. Nice.
