Saw Dobbyn and McGlashun last night at the Union Church in Islington. I'd forgotten quite how melancholic their respective music can be. Or maybe it was the venue? Either way a good night

A mixture: a Seville street protest; Princess Street, Edinburgh; and Margate’s number one tourist destination: The Shell Grotto. Whilst it looks, well, grotty, the shell cavern is astounding

Up Front: To the Letter, in reply to Deborah,
Geoff, I would also like to read any links you care to share on the topic

Hard News: Narcissists and bullies, in reply to Lucy Telfar Barnard,
It was one of the better apologies I've read. I should book mark it to send to the no doubt inevitable non apologies from public figures we will all encounter in the future.

Hard News: Narcissists and bullies, in reply to Miche Campbell,
Good points both. I'd like to think McVicar would be a good guy here, but that being said, he almost certainly would have nothing to add

I would imagine, given the blanket media coverage this morning, that if the police will ever get a complaint it will be now. Here is hoping.

Interesting link. While squatting is still very much a thing here I don't think it is particularly common anymore amongst the expats, whereas doss houses/room/bed sharing are very much are for people over on working holidays anyway (as opposed to longer stays). But I sort of wish it was sometimes, when I pay my rent (about $1500 a month to share a house with two others in zone 3) and when I saw that house prices in the suburb are just shy of half a million pounds (and going up month by month).
Edit
Here is a great link to photos of derelict London housing

Southerly: Sunstroke in Scotland, in reply to David Haywood,
At last! I don't feel so mad anymore. When I first got to Europe and wandered about touristing, I did think the facial features of Scots/Danes/Norwegians did seem very similar to NZ Europeans, more so than others. Copenhagen especially was a bit odd for double takes.

I have barely spent any time in Edinburgh, but have spent time in Glasgow. Not quite sure why, but I'm sure the anarchist grandfather would approve all the same.
I suspect it is in part due to teenage over-exposure to Trainspotting and a latent fear of being mugged by for the crime of being a tourist.

Fantastic links, thank you
