The amended bill on page 4 has a section on public education.
Public education
We recommend that if the bill is enacted the appropriate agencies
should conduct public awareness and education campaigns ... -
Crimes Act:
common assault
Assault on a child, or by a male on a femalehmm...
Girl hits Boy = 1 year (common assault)
Boy hits Girl = 2 years (Assault by male on female) -
dad4justice, what happens currently? It certainly won't change if the bill is passed.

Juha is, as always, right. Plus, shouldn't the right to smack kids be extended past parents to anyone within arms reach... "It takes a village to raise a child"

Don got it here from page 9

What do they mean by '13 unexplained deaths'? Does it mean they were caused by meningococcal disease?

I have telstraclear cable on the 10/2Mbps plan and got this:
Last Result:
Download Speed: 9161 kbps (1145.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 2130 kbps (266.3 KB/sec transfer rate)when i first went on to the plan i was only getting 3000kbps, but it turned out to be my network card settings - large packets or something causing the problem.

With summer almost at an end I can't see any browning of NZ

It is interesting to see how section 59 has been ruled on.
It seems that 'reasonable force' is more than 'light smacking' in some cases (eg hosepipes, doubled over belts). Though there are some cases listed there involving smacking that were also unreasonable.

Ah yes, the details are in the report (just checked it out now). My point was really about the 'reporting of statistics', the vague hope that I can read the summary and get some figures that I can compare and be shocked or proud without having to dig further.
Heh, looked at stuff from my example ("The country is slightly worse than average for 15-year-olds who feel lonely (7 per cent)") and found it to wrong. NZ is 6.6%, with a Mean of 7.4%, so we are slightly better than average, unless Simon wants 15yr olds to feel lonely :)
This is an example which should hardly even be mentioned in the summary because it is so unremarkable as every other country is around the 5-10% mark (except for Japan on 30%!).
