  • JackElder,

Stephen Judd was on form as one of the most naturally sociable people I have ever met.

I got there at about 10:15pm, due to a clashing commitment. Certainly, by the time I got there, most people were very "naturally sociable". To the point where I'm fairly sure that many of you may not remember me... As people have said, it's good to put faces to names.

Kicking myself for not walking up to the person whose arm tattooes looked just like JackElder's gravatar.

That was either me, or there's a copyright problem.

I too am a clashing enthusiast.

I'm sorry I didn't get to talk to you was what I was trying to say. :-)

  • Emma Hart,

Oh, and here are some photos from the formal part of the evening, thanks to the wonderful Mike Roseingrave.

Oh thanks guys, those are great. Note to self: try not to look like such a bimbo.

And, I must mention, Megan and Jo gave me the most fantastic necklace. I was gutted that my Something Must Go Wrong field put Jo in hospital.

The Doctor Will See You Shortly

    And he did.

And now I'll be able to read his work without picturing David Slack, instead :-)

  • Sofie Bribiesca,

    Hi Jackie,

We think you are a pearler.:) I have your Gravatar but other half doesn't. Mind you I am the wonderful Linux op. system, and his of course is Windows xp. That was my comment yesterday aout the cardi. Gosh we all got those school photos didn't we.Still , was that my cardi? and were you in my class? ;) We suggest do it again. I do remember mine took 3 days and it was because I hadn't completed it properly by not ticking the end user licence agreement terms etc. Best of luck.

  • Joanna,

She (me) has just managed to get home from hospital (cellulitis of the abdomen, hurrah!) and has just realised it's all bloody Emma's fault for saying "the doctor will see you shortly". Oi Emma, can your next post please be called "You will find employment and true love shortly"? You owe me big time!

  • Sofie Bribiesca,

That looks sore Jo. What actually happened? Can we blame anyone else but Emma please, it's just that I am at her book launch on wednesnight, and I"ve already slipped and damaged my big toe. I am now seriously worried about my beer, Scotch tasting tomorrow night.:) Hope it (have you named it yet) gets better soon.

  • Sofie Bribiesca,

Sorry should have said 'That looks sore Joanna' I know that it feels wrong when the name isn't correctly used, so sorry.

Sweet as, people call me Jo all the time, and I refer to myself as Jo out loud but written down I like the way Joanna looks better. You'd only get in trouble for calling me Joanne!

I haven't named the black hole of death but perhaps I should.

Words cannot express how sorry I am that my particuar brand of magic - my ability as a Ferry Godmother, shall we say, only works face to face.

Have you done extensive testing to prove that theory, though?

  • Bart Janssen,

Well I thought the Auckland evening was very enjoyable!

Graham Reid stepped up to plate and introduced the guests of honour after it became clear that Russell was delayed. Which was a little odd because Graham was as much a guest of honour as Emma and David.

I got my hands on autographed copies of the tomes (they are so going to be worth at least $5 on Trademe).

Dr Haywood entertained the Auckland crowd and he wasn't even wearing socks and sandals! And then Emma stood up and joyfully read the C word from David's book. I'm not sure what was funnier, David's text or Emma's delight in reading it.

I had a great time and really enjoyed meeting the authors in RL.

I'm even not quite so scared of Emma any more.

PS From someone with almost no natural parenting instincts - Bob was very cute and much better behaved than his Dad.

PPS I went home at 9pm so someone else will have to report on the late night events.

  • Emma Hart,

Graham did do a fantastic job stepping in for Russell; it was much appreciated.

I told David I'm considering recording an audio-book of the Reserve Bank Annual. That prose is so much fun to read out loud.

And it was fabulous (almost as much fun as saying 'cunts' again) to be able to put faces and voices to all those names. You are all, though, a complete bunch of geeks. I'm appalled.

  • Jackie Clark,

Bart, why on earth did you not come and introduce yourself? For shame, young man.

  • Bart Janssen,

    huh? who? what? where?

Need nametags... I did put a face to Sofie and Steve Barnes but sadly I'm sure there were folks there whom I know vritually but without going around shaking hands and saying "who the hell are you?" ... sorry I'm just too shy to do that.

I will be there on Friday and Russell promises nametags

And who are you callin' young! I could have won $10 last night from someone betting they were older than I :).

    O rly? I don't think so!I have friends in high places y'know. :)
We managed to get Bob's signature all over the top of David's. Lime green it was. That was our friend Jims idea, so his book got the autographs.Actually he was more interested in Bobs than Davids. Didn't really give a toss about the latter. :)
