As for other meanings for "teabag". Just goes to show you who the perverts are. Normal people don't do that kind of crap and so don't know of the other meanings.

Fellow PAS perverts- we've been outed!

How soon before the Protocols of the Elders of Zion get a mention?

Or before David Icke gets his own show on Fox News?

A fascinating Homeland Security threat assessment report on right-wing extremism is on the wires.

It doesn't perceive a present danger of violence, but notes the trends in the 1990s, leading up to the Oklahoma City bombing and looks at where risk might arise. It actually seems fairly sober.

The wingnuts have gone completely nuts over it. Drudge has it splashed across his front page, pointing to a Washington Times story, which is currently unreachable under the load of traffic.

And WorldNet Daily is all over it. Check out the comments.

Also, the weighting of those poll results is absolutely no surprise - an inverted pyramid with the tiny minority of (relatively) sane responses crushed under tonnes of paranoid wingnutry.

Woh! Just read 2.5 pages of comments that really put the "nut" in "wingnut". Then I had to leave it, with 26 pages unread. Them's some scary dudes.

Several leading wingnut blogs have been stating as stone-cold fact that Obama's rapturous audience with US troops in Iraq was faked, and that soldiers were provided with cameras and ordered to take The One's picture -- because any fool can see from press pics that "all the cameras are the same models."

    Uh, no, actually.

It's like a great tide of weirdness.

  • Angus Robertson,

Plus the US government is a good risk. US public debt is 61% of GDP, which is mainstream (more than NZ, less than Germany). If the US wanted or needed to reduce its debt, it has lots of room to cut spending and increase taxes.

America internalises (hides under carpet) a lot of its public debt by borrowing against its social security trust.

Oh hang on, maybe that's the horror that the wingnuts forsee. Making America behave like other states!

Which will be interesting for a lot of people - not just wingnuts. Normal states account for social security payments on the books, that would see US debt rise by approximately 80%. Also the book value of the TARP "assets" is inflated so there is another $trillion or two to add there.

Real world US debt is closer to 125% of GDP.

As far as I can tell the Americans are paying money to their "Cullen Fund", but then borrowing money from the Fund to pay for expenditure, but listing the debt they are borrowing from themselves as assets owned by themselves.

Maybe I am wrong about this adding to the overall debt/GDP ratio, my accountancy is not a strength.

  • Rich of Observationz,

Even if the US is bankrupt, what do you do about it if you're the prime lender, Hu Jintao, for instance?

    - Attack the USA to try and get your money back? That would end in nuclear war and you'd get vapourised, or at a minimum have to live out your days in a sealed bunker under the Himalayas. Poor option.

    - Stop giving them any more money, and consequently, remove the ability to sell them stuff? Massive unemployment, rioting and a good chance you'd end up hung from a lampost. Also a poor option.

    - Work out a way to take their money, dubious though it might be and hence keep the factories running and the workers happy. Keep your palace, coke and hookers. Probably the best choice in the circumstances.

    Rich,

    Try this link.

But with the actual US Govt figures on intragovernmental debt being available, pretty sure I stuffed up and double counted with reality more like 80-85% GDP.

Stop giving them money, borrow against the strength of your own economy and invest in local infrastructure projects to stimulate internal consumption and generate more jobs.

That's a huge repositioning of their economy, and undermines one of their primary goals of recent years -- to prop up the value of the $US all those bonds they buy are denominated in. If they stop buying the bonds, the value of the bonds dives anyway. All messy.

But yeah, you might be right.
