  • Hadyn Green,

That said, I'd like to see a game between the overseas-based All Blacks and the NZ resident ones. Not too shabby a team there.

Sweet Jesus Balls! That'd be awesome! Even the overseas non-All Blacks could front a decent squad... that might just become a Dropkicks post today.

while the 3 Wise Men wouldn't admit it unless it was a cold day in hell, I thought we missed Jerry in the weekend.

The old Jerry though, not the Jerry of this year's Super 14.

  • Kyle Matthews,

Someone needs to edit a youtube video of that last try and edit in Jerry Collins flattening him like he did with that Welsh chap a few years ago.

The rugby games that get played in our head are always much better.

  • Paul Rowe,

Perhaps that is (and I'm only speaking for myself here) the sad sad truth about the oversell and over-promise of last years RWC cosmic joke. Losing doesn't hurt as much

When the NZRU gives us 12 tests in a season the chances of going through unbeaten are nigh on impossible. How about they stop treating fans and players like cash cows and think strategically about how to run their sport? Fewer matches, but of more value might be a start.

(And we can tell some of our NH opponents that if they don't want to send a top team, don't bother coming)

  • Paul Rowe,

You could never accuse Paul Waite of not being passionate.

If I thought it would work for us, I'd be tempted to suggest that when the ABs are on tour, there should be two teams doing completely separate tours.

An A team, and a B team. One could do Europe, the other could trip around the Pacific/Argentina. One plays Saturdays, the other Sundays.

If the northern hemisphere keeps sending B (or C) teams down under, they'll get the B team up there, the Pacific Islands are long overdue on having the ABs whizz around the islands and play their national teams.

  • Paul Rowe,

Actually, a friend came up with a similar (slightly more radical) proposal:

Approx 110 players are selected each year into the 5 NZ Franchises. Of this110 players we select 60 elite players. The players are selected on the basis of being part of 2 equivalent yet mutually exclusive All Blacks squads. The first squad of 30 players play rugby for whatever elite competition is required (Super14, Iveco series, Tri Nations) in the period Feb-June inclusive. The second squad play elite competitions over July-Nov period (extended Super14, additional All Black tests/tours, end of season Europe tour).

Returning to the overseas players versus current all blacks idea: The dropkicks made a list

I don't want to even think of the logistics of that selection process. "Sorry Dan, you don't get to travel to Europe this year, just Canberra"

An A team, and a B team. One could do Europe, the other could trip around the Pacific/Argentina. One plays Saturdays, the other Sundays.

But then there looms the prospect of losing to England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, etc and often. that idea would lose support faster than a pulled-down maul.

Also I imagine it would be the team touring Europe that would play on the Sunday (because I'd like to see you try that in the Islands). But because of time zones, they could still play on Saturday, but it would be screened here on Sunday.

Well, I did say "if I thought it would work for us".

But the last Grand Slam we won with almost two completely different teams playing consecutive games. Middle of last year I would have rated our B side to beat any of the above, not so much this year with the exodus.
