I think Limited Nuclear Strike on Iran is in the offing

I don't think it will be good old unky sam that does it though, could more likely come from cousin Hymie Butkiss

  • merc,

We live under the cloud of The Bomb, that is our defining historical moment. The US used The Bomb twice, they are now the only remaining super power. If pushed and to assert that position, have they the maturity to not push the button.
BTW, the first bomb was a psychotic act (defined by acting against social conscience), the scientists themselves stated that they were not 100% sure it would not set off a chain reaction (as the fire bombing of Dresden did), they did it anyway.
Apparently JFK was very close to hitting the button, but Kruchev? at the very last minute backed down, knowing that there has only ever been one Nation who has actually used nukes (on civilians), and that Nation is America.

  • Jeremy Andrew,

    Thanks, Stephen. I stand updated.
At least that's a word I was unlikely to accidently use in polite (or any) company. In fact, until Reece's post, I would have thought it fairly difficult to use accidently at all.

  • WH,

Its ironic that nuclear weapons prevent wars between major powers by making them unwinnable.

But sometimes that just aint enough to keep a man like me interested/No I gotta go out and have fun at someone elses expense

  • merc,

It is surreal when you consider that there's enough nukes to destroy Earth at least 8 times over. Like once is not enough? And that would be real global warming...
Remember there has not been an invention that we havn't eventually used.

  • reece palmer,

In clarification and by way of explanation, I've done a little research because the word I intended to use was hynie. I've since found out that it's actually spelt heiny and means buttocks or as I wanted to contextualise it asshole. So double D'oh. I'm feeling pretty stupid for making what was an honest mistake and hope that people will accept thats what it was. I've heard the other misused H word used in the context of jewish people but not specifically in the way Stephen pointed out, just in a generalised type of way which I suppose when you think about it is usually not too accurate either (generalisation that is).

    So again Stephen,

I guess I could have cleaned it all up with my mighty editing privileges, but it went an interesting place, so whatever. I've always liked the look of Heeb magazine:

It's ok russell, we're all mature adults that can draw our own conclusions and I appreciate being left to fend for myself, it's the grown up thing to do.

  • Felix Marwick,

Re the Maori Party visit to TPF.

Yes it was probably about kaupapa and aroha but you do have to ask a few hard questions given comments made earlier this year by Tariana Turia about the Pacific Island community and the Maori electoral roll.

Having Pacific Island support at the next election would do huge things for the Maori Party's party vote. If they can win all the Maori Seats (v' possible) and boost their party vote they maximise their bargaining power. It's the smart strategy
