How anybody can call Edward Snowden anything but honourable, is beyond me. Here he is saving Democracy in Europe of all places? Who'd have thought he could multitask?

I detect two distinct camps: those who think we'll always be at war with Eastasia (Trev Loudon, NZCPR), and those who have vested interests in America Inc (FranO, Chuck Finny). Or both.

Cruising the Guardian comments amid the revelations I encountered one comment detailing that one of the things that prompted Edward Snowden to blow whistle was a New Zealander who had become aware of his spying and was able to communicate back with him and highlight just how wrong this shit the NSA is doing is. Taken to be true, this could even have been our own Rawshark.

I’ve been looking back for it for days, but it seems to have vanished, and I can’t find any other reference to this on the net.

One of the crucial things to note with that article Sofie is that the NSA is run by the department of defence while the CIA is a civilian. Snowden is nothing but honourable but I think diminishing the power of the CIA merely leaves a vacuum and more territory for the NSA to exploit.

In noting that it would be remiss not to also point out the strong connections between the Bush family and numerous other 20thC administrations with the CIA. So perhaps this could be something like the CIA as the house of Tudor being displaced by the NSA as the house of Stewart.

It's very important to note that Xkeyscore, and nearly all Snowden's revelations are related to the workings of the NSA. Diminishing the power of the CIA does nothing to diminish the power of the NSA.

Let us know if it turns up. I've never heard of him having had his opinion changed about this by someone.

I will, it's so strange, I immediately dismissed it, but it'd be a great story if it were found to be true.

    It certainly would be!

Oh yes I know, but I still admire the guy for caring about the world and being able to do something about it no matter what countries size. The US of A isn't too big to stop him no matter how difficult it must be. Personally, I have American family by the 100's and have seen how the powers that be there are in complete control. I know the machine is big, brother, and I know to go up against that is throwing your life to the wolves and I believe that Snowden must have a big cache that, combined with good cause (Greenwald, Dotcom) will get through to the people that care enough to get rid of shit Government like what we got tonight. How the fuck does an Electorate win with a large Labour vote but the Party vote go to National, time and time again. It makes nonsense. Who would vote electorate Labour candidate then Party, National? I'm sorry, but we got a shocking corrupt government with majority in the House, to night with no due respect to those who did that to me. Sad sad sad sad...stupid.

I might get a whack over the head for saying this but if you follow that thread to it's logical conclusion you may just well walk right into my smoking room for a sit down and a bit of a natter which could in its way diminish the that sick feeling one may get from a lost election and replace it with a more calm recognition of the bigger picture. Invite Steve too.

Plus I’m bummed out Hone lost. IMP felt that manoeuvre a few days back and for all the strategy being played to get a left bloc, it didn’t work. I hope he stays around and I hope IP stay around. Their cause is all good.

And round in circles we go...
    Hooray for Holyrood
    That screwy, ballyhooey Holyrood
Where any office boy or young mechanic
Can be a panic, with just a goodlooking pan
Where any barmaid can be a star maid
If she dances with or without a fan
    Hooray for Holyrood

Hey, at least this spectacle made up for the 2014 $300M+ TV dinner. It’s up with the best writing the industry has produced in a decade.

One of the important parts Snowden left out, is that he was spying on the communications of New Zealanders just before he decided to leave the NSA.

A New Zealander, whose communications Snowden intercepted (and whose personal thoughts Snowden violated) became the person to convince Snowden to walk out of the NSA.

The person who inspired Snowden to escape his place of employment, was, in brief, a New Zealander.

This is how it happened (loosely)...

A person in New Zealand, who Snowden spired on, became aware of Snowden's intrusions and used the opportunity to "talk back". The person convinced Snowden to leave the NSA and even offered suggestions on how he should do it (including suggestions for Snowden to collect evidence in the form of whatever files he could, and to disperse such evidence among journalists).

The person warned Snowden that Wikileaks was a known drop-off point and, if not an actual entrapment programme in itself, was at least heavily monitored. Whether Snowden bothered to check this advice with NSA resources at his disposal at the time is now unknown because Snowden has forgotten.

Was this person an anomolous single incident, or are more New Zealanders of the sort at large? Doubtless a question any remaining staff within the NSA and associated units of Telepathic Interception are eager to answer...

Thanks for that, certainly very interesting, how did the commenter know, and how did the person whose stuff he was looking at find out?

The first time I read it I hadn’t noticed the phrase “Telepathic Interception”, so I'm not sure how far in the future the author was writing from ;)

Haha, you're right. Would have been great if it had been true though, not for the NZ link or anything, just as something of interest.
