Some quality spinning from the Nats on this
I don't think it was a brilliantly thought through strategy, more a reaction from people whose instinctive misogyny wanted to blame the victim but whose shit-house rat cunning told them that would be a very, very bad idea.
So they choose the next best target, the victim's messenger.
I suppose the fact that so many people called them on this bizarre benavioural response and that most of the dinosaurs of the hard right are now sufficiently aware that victim blaming is no longer acceptable is two positives we can take out of this whole affair.

One thing everyone seems to agree on - sexual harassment is worse than chickenshit political pointscoring.

defending a woman's honour". I think the PAS Women's XV decided they were quite capable of defending their own honour,
Now that is your spin Craig because I distinctly remember Pas xv saying not all girls can do that. In an ideal world of course none of this would happen

If Worth had just said, "I was having a bit of a joke and it backfired badly, I'm sorry for any misunderstanding"
Would this thing have just gone away? I think, maybe it would have.
But hey, this is politics right?.
There is no accident here and it has little to do with Worth as I said in an earlier post. The motive and endgame are still not apparent to me.Unless, of course it was a bad attempt by Goff to discredit Key. The scenario here is that Key got to hear about the plot, the plot being;
Goff warns Key of Worth's indescression, Key does nothing, Goff exposes Key as an indecisive leader who thinks sexual discrimination etc. are just PC nonsense.
Once Key's band of merry misanthropic Machiavellian misogynists discover the plot they set Worth up for the fall and put the blame on Goff. ie, why if it were so important didn't he go to the police etc.
Either way Worth was a sacrificial wombat. I actually think I fee a wee bit sorry for him.If only there were a way to turn this into a by election for Epsom, now wouldn't that be a hoot?.

What's the normal attrition rate for Govt MPs through an elected term & when will Stephen Franks get his seat?
-
Hmm, Stephen Franks. Can I smell sulphur?
-
That's just the smell of someone burning his hoardings.

And don't that lot like to hoard?.

Sooo, can we get rid of Garrett with his impeccable timing.

Be careful what you wish for, who's next on their list anyway? You don't have to get far down the ACT list before the flake to substance ratio gets very high.

According to this the next on the list is Hilary Calvert.
Apparently she's a Dunedin lawyer. Doesn't sound from what I can find to be a nutjob. Could be wrong but.

In a stroll through the ACT party list you could end up with a lot worse from the little I know. She's the anti-stadium lawyer I believe.

She must be relieved that studying anti-stadium law is paying off, what with the state of the economy and all.

Well, I wonder how many female journalists (and not all of a 'certain age' either) are rolling their eyes at the media being too sanctimonious about well-lubricated "off-colour remarks"? No, two wrongs do not make a right but there's also a proverb about people in glasshouses and all that...

BTW, in the interests of fairness, I've got to acknowledge that Rodney Hide appears to know how to handle sexual harassment allegations seriously. Messers Key and Goff should take notes.

He gave him a stern telling off? Wasn't this you Craig?:
Meanwhile, 3410, if someone comes to you claiming they've been subject to sexual harassment you'd take it seriously, and do everything in your power to make sure its reported promptly to the appropriate authority. And that wouldn't be the CEo's office.
Shouldn't Rodney have reported it to the proper authorities?

Kyle: I'm trying to give credit where credit's due here -- but you've posed an entirely fair question. From my reading of the HoS story, Hide did not sit on the allegations for months, or decide that "gentlemanly" phone calls were in order, and he made it perfectly clear to Garrett that what might well be acceptable on an oil rig is not the standard of behaviour in Parliament. The woman involved, as I read it, was told that if she wants to lay a formal complaint with Parliamentary Services (as she is entitled to do) he would take it seriously.
So, yeah, I do think Hide did handle this a damn sight better than either Goff or Key handled the allegations around Richard Worth. I know Rodders isn't exactly the flavour of the month around these parts, but a little credit where credit is due!
-
And as to whether Mr. Garrett is a fit and proper person to be in Parliament (as opposed to holding a ministerial warrant) I'm pretty happy with the status quo where that is left in the hands of electors -- expect in a small and pretty narrow range of circumstances -- not party leaders. Frustrated on occasion, but happy. :)
-
And finally, since ACT is the party of personal responsibility I assume Garrett will be getting no sympathy whatsoever if the next person he makes an "off-colour remark" to punches him in the mouth? Violence is not OK, but sometimes its sure tempting.

When Garrett blundered in here a few weeks back I did offer that the more one knew about the man, the greater the sympathy one felt for Rodney Hide. With a track record like this, it'll be a miracle if the buffoon doesn't self-destruct before the year's out

God, I just had flashbacks of the whole "it was the producers' fault for putting him in front of the cameras" discussion.
-
I heard him say today, that he has learned that his behavior as a lawyer in a law firm in Tonga, is not appropriate behavior for an MP.
I don't know much about Tongan law firms... or indeed anything. But I would have hoped it would be strongly discouraged there as well.
-
Makes me wonder about his behavior in the oil rig locker rooms.
I think you're too hung up on roughnecks' rights, Steven. Treat 'em all softly-softly and they'll just end up back in the wider community to drill again.

Well, I'd have to break my sobriety into tiny bits before agreeing to go anywhere near Eye to Eye.
