Sooo does that mean everybody should?;)
Nope, it means I should proof read my damn posts better and Russell should get that edit button installed ASAP. :)
-
We're about a week late to the Kiwiblog blame-Goff party aren't we? Yawn.
-
Thanks, Sacha. Fuck off and try engaging with what I've actually said.
-
Wait a moment, that was a bit unfair. Phil Goff's actions and public statements are beyond any degree of criticism or sceptical analysis, and I really need to understand that. My bad.
-
Wow, from fuck off to passive aggressive inside of one minute. That's gotta bit a land speed record of some kind.
-
Craig, you won't get any disagreement from me that this has played out badly for all involved. However the level of spin from the right to deflect responsiblity from Worth and Key onto Goff has been substantial. I've been engaging with that angle elsewhere for over a week now - and despite our shared aversion for some of the content of the right blogosphere I find it hard to believe you haven't either. So don't come over all disingenously "oh look what I've just found" here. It won't wash.
-
So he's gone totally.
I LOVE this line in his press release: “I could spend the future bemoaning the unfairness of a campaign which has Labour’s fingerprints all over it. But that is not my nature. The campaign has been run against me by people who are unable or unwilling to back their claims with credible evidence of criminal activity."Ha, "I won't complain about them BUT IT'S THEIR FAULT AND I FEEL I SHOULD COMPLAIN ABOUT IT"
-
Thanks, Sacha. Fuck off...
Craig, I realise you said you were being unfair in your subsequent post, but for the umpteenth time, "play the ball, not the person".
-
So did he (Worth) jump because he saw the push coming, do you think?
-
Regardless of anything else, he's a proud man with a solid career behind him and I doubt the backbenches would hold much interest at this stage.
-
So did he (Worth) jump because he saw the push coming, do you think?
Well, he couldn't have been pushed out of parliament altogether unless convicted of an offence punishable by two or more years' jail I understand.
But otherwise, from National, maybe echoes of David's original theme post.
-
So did he (Worth) jump because he saw the push coming, do you think?
Who knows? Because we STILL haven't been told why a Minister of the Crown had to resign before the PM fired him!
-
I do give props to Worth for using 'scuttlebutt', though. I love that word.
-
So Farewel then Dick Worth.
Oh, that's been done to death already.
;-)"Since I resigned as a Cabinet Minister earlier this month, I have been considering my personal options, and also the welfare of the National Party – a party which I love and have served to the best of my ability for the past nine years.
Hang on, shouldn't that be "Nine LONG years?.
-
As somebody said during a spate of "men overboard" in the UK, in the 1990's: Tory MPs believe in personal responsibility - except in their resignation statements.
-
Worth loves the titles, prestiege, parties and perks. To be treated like Field or some other type of unclean lepper would have destroyed him.
It's pretty clear Key was about to kick him out of the Party had he not jumped. -

Gio: I'm just rather tired of the "blame Goff for everything" crap, but if the default position is that he's the one adult on earth who bears no responsibility for his actions (which are beyond criticism) then I'm certainly in the wrong. Neither Goff nor Key have had a week to be proud of, but I'm more interested that Parliament be a place where sexual harassment allegations are taken seriously even when its politically inconvenient to do so.
-
that Parliament be a place where sexual harassment allegations are taken seriously
If anything, Goff took too much responsibility for what was always the job of the Prime Minister and the senior National party hierarchy. He also took too long to shut up and get out of the way once the spin became clear.
Worth probably would have done his party more sustained political damage if he were suspended and the criminal investigation allowed to unfold. A cynical opposition would probably have been less vigorous.
In any case, Brent Edwards on RNZ news just reminded listeners that Key dumped Worth on the basis of the case being investigated by the police which Labour had no role in whatsoever. It was also noted again that unlike many previous Ministerial sackings, Key left no possiblity of rehabilitation.
Worth says he will now make his contribution by "helping New Zealand win international trade".

Some quality spinning from the Nats on this, and I suspect it'll work. Key has decisively finished off Richard Worth - what a leader! - while Goff has cruelly finished off Richard Worth - what a cad!
The small matter of the public not actually being told why Worth has gone - as Minister, and as MP - well, that's just details, apparently.
-

Oh, God who is spinning here? Goff has been milking this for all the media time he could (has he given an interview on anything else recently?) and if it blew back on him, he has NOBODY but himself to blame.
-
I agree with Craig - Goff should have shut up a week ago.
-
However the coordinated campaign before that to shift the focus onto Goff was just that - deliberate.
-
Spin it whatever way you like, but from the moment Key was in the limelight over Worth, he stepped him down, and waited for him to resign, suggesting publicly that was going to happen. (in true National fashion) That is what happened, so it seems Key knew something and he didn't like what he knew. If Key had of remained loyal until the police had done their job,(announcing just that) and then decided Worth's future, maybe Goff wouldn't have been trying to defend a person's honour. Key spun Worth was going. The media never got info on the second lady until Key got her letter. only then was she vilified in the papers. That was National party spin.
-
Oh and Goff did shut up once the media got onto the womans husband etc.He knew it had offended the woman. he refused an interview on morning report.
-
Sofie:
That's the best abuse of faux-chivalry in a political spin job since Helen tried to explain Trevor Mallard's biffo with Tau Henare as "defending a woman's honour". I think the PAS Women's XV decided they were quite capable of defending their own honour, and didn't appreciate women being used as human shields by political thugs.
