  • Craig Ranapia,

    Schmooze

Awww... cute and all kinds of wrong. My favourite combo.

But where can I get a job charging obscene amounts of money for stating the bleeding obvious. Like: "Boris, you've got a serious chance of becoming Mayor of London. So, pull a fucking comb through your hair and stop acting like you're trying to get back on Have I Got News For You. You might also want to try talking about policy rather than free associating in public, if that's OK with you."

  • Simon Armitage,

    Craig,

I reckon the "bleeding obvious" advice to Key would be something along the following lines:

"John, you're doing brilliantly. The George Bush imitation has been a masterstroke - the gaffes, the memory lapses, the shallow policy, the close management, the focus group sound-bites, the shadowy advisors, the secret agendas, the manufactured crises, etc. Christ, Bush won two elections using this strategy!!
Let's just make sure that we leave the complicated stuff for Bill to manage. You stick to free associating in public rather than talking about policy, that is if you condone... oh, sorry...difficult word...., if that's OK with you."

And that's where I zone out, Simon. It's the same reaction I have when Helen Clark is compared to Stalin or Mugabe.

Craig, I think it's called advertising. David will tell you all about it.

So Key is not prone to fumbling over his sentences and missing his cues like a certain leader of the free world that we all know?<perspective/>

From that 'perspective', Paul, I'm fricking George Bush. Seriously, what are people going to do with themselves next January when that source of cheap shots is gone?

I think we're all having a really big party.

Key has issues Paul, but I think he's several stages up the talent ladder from Bush.

  • Craig Ranapia,

And perhaps we should hold fire on comparing Key to Chimpy McBushitler , while dear Helen Clark is showing some decidedly Nixonian tendencies herself.

The sharper end of Helen Clark's attack was a claim that Mr Key had an undisclosed conflict of interest because his family trust had 30,000 shares in TranzRail in 2003 when he was making comments about a privatised rail company.

Her attack was blunted by Mr Key's assurance to Parliament that the shares had been sold by then.

A spokesman for Helen Clark said last night that she accepted Mr Key's word on the matter but said "the wider point is that he has privatisation in his blood".

Wow, I wonder what Crosby/Textor charged for that. :)
